“Father's Day”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

Had a great meal here on the 17th of June - Father's Day. Staff were fantastic, the food was superb and all at a very resonable price. Will look forward to returning soon.

My business partner and myself stayed on June 28th 2012 and the service was second to non. Having had a late night courtesy of the wonderful service of the night porter, we missed breakfast. Not a problem to the staff at reception who offered us bacon sandwiches and coffee.

Rooms very nice, location fabulous, dining unrivalled.

We were recommended to stay here as we were attending a family party in the area, the hotel was clean, functional and had complimentary car parking. The receptionist who welcomed us was absolutely excellent and an asset to the hotel. She was the receptionist, barmaid, waitress and then after all that delivered room service - obviously very multi talented. We checked out with a hangover but was greated by a sunny smile, the same lady!!! The service received by her out weighed the standrad of the hotel decor and room facilities - far more important in my eyes.

Had hoped to enjoy a nice family get together in a restaurant we have used for decades.
Very disappointed.
They had a meal and wine offer. The restaurant was mobbed, service was terrible waiters passing plates over the table.felt the staff were rude and disinterested in the customers but just wanted to get the job done.

Have to say the food was good in spite of all this.

I think the restaurant would have benefitted from fewer tables and some better trained staff.

We had not eaten here for 12 months or more, used use more often. We thought we would go for lunch and take my 87 year old mother, as the menu looked fairly traditional and so would be suitable. Service prior to going to the table was poor, lack of communication between staff, which meant we wee left sitting in bar with no offer of drinks or menu to look at for quite a while, yet it wasn't busy. Head waiter lacking in charm, and skill. We were eventually seated and chose both food and wine. We had starters and main, all chose different and all dishes were poor. Quiche was dry and unappetising, looked as though it had been reheated several times. Melon starter was unripe, beef was tasteless enormous tough portion. We finished with coffee, which was served in a coffee pot for the 3 of us and was awful. Overall poor food, served by indifferent and charmless staff. Very disappointing visit and not one we shall be repeating. For us it was a great disappointment as we live not far away, used to live in Prestbury, our daughter had her wedding reception here and it was a lovely charming slightly old fashioned place which could be relied on for consistency.

*Ordered a bottle of wine, it was corked, waiter took it away, returned with an open bottle, when we tried it , it was the same bottle - on telling the waiter he told us there was no more of that wine !!

*Daughter celebrating with a friend, a waiter accidentally knocked over their bottle of champagne, apologised but the bottle was not replaced.

* general deterioration of standards and courtesy, seems full of old people now.

Room Tip: have never stayed at the hotel but there is a serious lack of on site parking.

We used to visit the hotel in the late 60's and early 70's, until we moved 60 miles away. A bit too far to drink and drive! However, we decided to stay here for my birthday and to eat in the restaurant--reviewed separately. The hotel has built rooms and facilities since we last came here.

Looking at the rooms online, we thought that the cost of the Bollin suite was reasonable at £130 odd for the night including breakfast and it was a good choice. Parking was a bit of a problem as there was a wedding on in the hotel's function area, but we managed to squeeze the car in--perhaps priority should be given to guests. The suite was a linear design, a small lounge with TV and tea/coffee maker, ensuite bathroom of a good size, missing a bidet.

The two bedrooms were accessed from the lounge and then from one to the other and were nicely decorated. The only problem could be nocturnal visits to the bathroom from the far bedroom. A safe in the room would not have gone amiss.

Breakfast was buffet style for cereals, juices, fruit and then a hot section for eggs, bacon, sausages etc. All in all a good selection. We enjoyed the stay and would do it again and would recommend the hotel as a good base in the Cheshire countryside.
