“Stunning Setting, but restaurant didn't live up to expectations”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Peckforton just can't be beaten for its beautiful setting, nor can the quality of the bedrooms be questioned. Having visited this stunning venue for a Land Rover Experience Day, It was unfortunate that dinner didn't live up to the other aspects of the stay. Gripe with reception - no offer of help with luggage and only directions to the room, which given the maze, was near impossible, so a big thank you to the more than willing maintenance staff.

Dinner was taken on a Sunday night, the first strange thing was they offer you one menu between two people and this was the same on surrounding tables. Service at all stages just was lacking in empathy, wine wasn't poured, long delay in ordering and then between delivery of each course. All in all we just got the impression that Sunday night wasn't the night to dine at Peckforton.

I know its also personnel view, but why give what I suppose you would call modern British food annoying medieval dish names, it certainly adds nothing to the dish!

Next time we'll possibly just visit for afternoon tea.

“Gorgeous food! Just need more of it”

We ate in the 2010 Brasserie whilst staying for a night in the castle as part of a Secret Escapes deal. The online menu offers steak but they were not on the menu we were presented on the evening. Never mind, we both had cod and chips. The fish was really tasty and the mushy peas (in a small metal bucket!) were the tastiest I've ever eaten. The only downside was that we could have done with a slightly bigger portion! I had the chocolate brownie and. Y partner had the cheesecake for pudding. Both were lovely but the portions are too small. Very very tasty food though, if only I lived closer!

“Didn't live up to the descriptions”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

Lovely setting. I had high hopes for the restaurant having looked at the menu online but sadly was disappointed.
Service could have been better- our party of 7 arrived separately - the first 2 were offered drinks and menus but on arrival the rest of us had to wait some time for service and the restaurant was quiet.
Wine and pre starter- an asparagus soup -very nice and probably the best part of the meal
Starters were on the whole very nice and well presented - however the mains were a letdown
The. 'Pigs might fly' which advertises crackling was two small cubes of belly pork with really soft soggy skin on top. Chicken from market menu lukewarm at best.
My marshland lemon sole was so salty I actually couldn't eat it and filled up on the sides instead.
The waitress split the carrot side so her tray - used her fingers to put them back in the bowl then gave them to us.
Wine wasn't poured. Ran out of water. No one enquired if everything was ok with the meals.
Puddings were excellent.
On the whole some really good bits but needs to do better.

“Very good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014 via mobile

Went for a birthday dinner to the restaurant last week. We were collected by tge Home James service (a wonderful complimentary option if you live close). Sat inthe bar for drinks first and selected our food, from a choice of two menus (fixed price and La Carte). Cant actually fault the food, it was lovely. The restaurant is nicely laid out, staff attentive, food imaginative, portions not huge, so three courses is manageable without feeling stuffed. Were driven home. Definitely we will be back. Under £100 including a bottle of wine and coffee

Was a bit concerned about the food being too fussy but it was lovely! Great quality and delicious and neither of us could finish!
