“Quality Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

We have just returned from a well needed relaxing break at The Wild Boar. Just what we needed. The staff are all welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We felt valued guests. The food was excellent and not rushed. Beautiful hotel and surroundings. You must look at the Penthouse it is amazing with its Jacobean ceiling. Will definitely return to this amazing Hotel

We booked this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we up graded to a four poster room which was a good size and tastefully decorated. Dinner was excellent, good size portions, well presented, although the menu was limited. staff were very attentive nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was great with plenty to choose from. Would definitely visit again, the only issue was the wifi access offered not being available.

Booked the hotel through living social deals for £89 for dinner, bed and breakfast for my wife and I to celebrate my 50th birthday. The hotel is visually stunning as you arrive and is very nice on the inside. The room we had was very nice and comfortable and clean and tidy. We settled in, had a couple of drinks at the bar then went to the restaurant for dinner and wow, what a fantastic meal! Very very delicious food and huge portions. The staff are superb and very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was buffet style and delicious and constantly replenished. All in all we had a fantastic time at this wonderful hotel and will be returning very soon.

We ate in the brasserie. Food was nice enough but coordination and service not great. We arrived 5 minutes before our 12pm bookings to find they were still hoovering the restaurant and setting up. We were asked to wait in the bar, where we sat until for 15 minutes with no-one coming to the table to offer drinks until finally seated at our table later than booked.

Food was nice once seated, but couldn't understand why they wouldn't take my original 1:30pm booking when at 2pm there were still several tables free and it wasn't massively busy.

Portions sizes more than big enough and great value for money, just wasn't 'wow'.

Stayed here on Groupon voucher on a one night Bed and Breakfast deal...The place is very grand looking as you can tell from the photos..It is looking pretty run down in parts but the upkeep for a place like this must be a bit pricey...The room we stayed in was very nice with a lovely view over the fields with rabbits running about. There was a bit of a strange aroma in the room that reminded me of a damp mop but only I seemed to detect it(my nose is very sensitive apparently)the place is very clean however so it might be some rot in the timbers or something..it did not detract from our enjoyment but to be fair we were not in the hotel long as we checked in and went straight out to Tarporley for a meal(it was my birthday) We had a good nights sleep and the breakfast was good(buffet style) there was a huge rush and it caused things to be a bit out of synch with people waiting for eggs or bacon at various times but I gather that things usually went more smoothly with the food and it was just due to increased demand..I would recommend this hotel but cannot comment on the restaurant bar etc but it looked cosy but quiet...probably a good place for a wedding or conference but not much to do in the area around there.......The Groupon price was very good but otherwise probably a bit pricey.....

Room Tip: Room 37 family room has nice view but odd smell(for sensitive noses)

Visited this hotel for a second time. The first time was for a New Years Eve party. This time we attended with family for a weekend away. Unfortunately the rooms are getting a little dated but they were clean and contained everything that we needed. We had a 2 year old with us and there wasn't a problem having him in the dining room for the evening meal. The staff were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was buffet style and was replenished constantly with plenty to choose from. Would definitely staff there again
