“A nice hotel, but not excellent”
Reviewed 13 June 2010

I have been to many Spa hotels, this one is average.
The first thing i noticed was the size of the TV, although I only noticed this because the football was on, it was small for the room.
The Spa, and treatments, were good, but very surprised to see there was no jacuzzi.
Resaurant was nice, i had the steak, which was poor and overpriced, but everything else was nice.
Breakfast was poor, i asked for poached eggs which turned up hard.
It is a nice hotel, but not one i'd return to.

Booked through 'Last Minute .com. ...room only..a double and was amazed at the value for money. Dinner was excellent 3 courses for £25, ..and top standard cuisine, but service was slowish. We didnt take advantage of the spa etc as it was only an overnight stop over for us on way from London, via Shrops to Scotland.
We will definitely book again. Near the motorway and much cheaper and ten times the quality of a Travelodge.

Spent three days here on a golf package, hotel facilities are generally first class but the service in the dining room is abysmal. Bar food and drinks are expensive but if you're golfing then use their Premier Clubhouse along the road where prices are much more normal. Also beware that if using a credit card they add 2% surcharge. Golf courses are good though the personal preference of most of our group was the Premier rather than the Championship course. The hotel's website describes the pro's shop as one of the best stocked in the north-west, tosh.

The hotel description is well covered in previous posts - all being accurate. we did feel the pool area and spa facilities were spacious, well laid out and generally excellent. having taken part in some 'treatments' i have to say all aspects were 1st class and the staff hit the tone 100%. Food was 4* as expected, staff were courteous and generally our stay was above expectations. we will certainly return.
If I have 1 criticism It was disappointing to see the non-respect of the restaurant dress code...many pairs of jeans on the night we were there. A little picky i know but a little disappointing nontheless.

Not to go with children they are not made welcome at all, infact they were only acknowledged to make us pay extra for a bigger room ( and children stay free!!!)
We were then given a room with no lock on the balcony door, perfect for an adventurous 2 year old !!
And as for the " the largest indoor golf academy in Europe" it was an old derelict cow shed, not a golf ball in site !!! Apart from that the hotel was lovely, good food and the perfect situation.

My wife and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary with a two night break with three games of golf. Facilities were excellent with very friendly and helpful staff, food good, courses very well maintained. Had a large room with balcony - very clean. Would recommend to anyone thinking of a short golfing break, or just to chill out. Does cater for primarily golfers and golfing groups.

Well after reading a few of the reviews on here I was a little apprehensive, it is not a cheap place to walk away from disappointed. From driving down the impressive drive surrounded by beautiful golf courses to the ample car parking, to a very pleasant receptionist welcoming us in, arrival was smooth and how it should be. Our room was at the farthest point which again was most welcome as it meant that we had a corner room with windows on 2 sides, delightful! Room decour was exactly as in the brochure, stylish and contemporary. Bed was extremely comfortable, so much so it has made us go out and order a new mattress for our own home!! Soft feather pillows and ample duvet to aid you slumber soundly. You need to book for the restaurant and thankfully we did this before arriving because on both nights it was very busy and again we were nervous about the service / food after some of the reviews on here but I have to say we were very pleasantly surprised. Food was very good and service very attentive on both of the nights that we were there. We had of both the set menu and the a la carte and we could not tell the difference in either quality or size of portions, so would happily recommend the set menu. For breakfast the is a wide range on the buffet from continental to full English and then for a little more you can order specials, but the buffet was more than ample, again with very attentive staff for tea and coffee. The bar area in the hotel was large with plenty of comfortable seating and both nights we relaxed there, there was no rowdy hen / stag / golf parties for over the top noise. Yes there were stags but they did have decorum fitting to this type of hotel. The spa / swimming pool was wonderful and we took full advantage and to be honest it was the icing on the cake. I cannot fault this lovely relaxing weekend, my only let down was on our side that we had only booked a 2 night stay and I wished it had been longer. I would highly recommend it and we will be back, and next time with our golf clubs in tow to take advantage of the 3 courses that surround this beautiful hotel. However in saying that not having clubs meant we went shopping in nearby Chester which was great, with many little quirky shops you don't see now in the mundane towncentres that are apparent throughout the country.
