“Once again a brilliant stay!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

I have stayed at the hotel previously and once again all I can say is what a brilliant stay we had. The rooms were bright, clean and comfortable and the staff were courteous and welcoming. I would like to thank Rachel on reception for all her help, nothing was too much trouble, as well as the managerial staff who made us feel like returning friends.

An excellent hotel well worth the money can't fault it!!!!!

My room ( 228 ) was large, very clean, excellent for 3 star. The staff were very friendly & helpful.... A very good experience all round, and a nice surprise, as I expected the usual "dormitory" atmosphere. I would recommend this Hotel and will certainly visit again !

Room Tip: If you value peace, ask for a room at the rear.... Away from the car park,

From booking the hotel to staying and leaving, the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble, I have to point at that Amy on reception was the principle one we dealt with, so much of this praise must go to her. Best receptionist we've ever crossed paths with and we've travelled the world.
Hotel a bit tired but clean. Food in restaurant below average, but breakfast was good.
Thank you Amy from Barry & Dianne

Room Tip: corner suites are large and sunny

Everything about the hotel was fine, a little on the tired side. The car park was very big, reception and checking in were ok.
The room was nice and large, if not a little tired. Big TV and good wifi signal. The nights sleep wasn't that great, you had a choice of either a rock hard pillow or a harder one. I ended up using the towels out of the bathroom.
The biggest disappointment which also cost the hotel was the price of the breakfast. It was my fault for not asking the price when asked if I wanted one, I expected a hotel of this grade to be charging £10 approx. the breakfast was definitely average. When I checked out and found out the price £15.95, I was shocked. The previous most expensive breakfast before this had Ben the Inter Continental in Bangkok at £2 cheaper than this. That breakfast had at least 200 dishes to choose from, slightly more than the Everglades.
The pricey breakfasts means I will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: Eat breakfast elsewhere....

Thank you for reviewing the hotel. I am sorry to hear you found the pillows hard, they are all brand new and so may still be quite firm. With regards to the breakfast, if you pre-book breakfast it is only £10 extra per person, but on the day it is slightly more. We hope that you would consider staying with us again and we hope to see you soon.

Very well-presented Hotel, with eager to please staff. Nice clean and tidy rooms . For me the only two let down for the hotel are the quality of the food served in the restaurant on an evening. Stayed last week out of 3 nights in the restaurant all had faults, food well over cooked every night. And the hot water in the rooms is limited.

We stayed for 1 night at this hotel which was about 10 mins drive off the M6 towards Liverpool on the edge of the town of Widnes. In summary, this is an average hotel in an average location. Paid £65 for the night without breakfast which was a little rich for what it was to be honest. Chose the place since it was pet friendly and our dog was allowed into the room with us.

The hotel is located in quite an industrial area with factories, workshops, cooling towers and the likes around. There is also residential housing all around as well. The location was described as semi rural which is probably about right as to one side of the hotel, the industry and housing is found and the other side there are many fields. From a dog owners perspective, the location was quite disappointing as all of the fields were either growing crops or marked to keep out so there were no nice rural walks available. We were stuck with a long walk through housing estates and alleys and found little in the way of green space around. One dog walker I asked said there is a park about 2 miles away which is good for dogs!!!

The hotel bar was quite uninspiring with no windows and that ‘business hotel’ type feel to it and the restaurant menu was overpriced and nobody was using it either – we didn’t bother with either and brought food in. The area is fairly rough to be honest and the local pub called the Griffin, opposite the small co-op (nearest shop) is probably better avoided. It was quite rough but quite busy. No ales available and no food – just a drinking pub. This is 0.7 of a mile from the hotel. There was another pub /resto we passed which looked like it was a foody place and part of a chain e.g. 2 meals for £10, etc. It was called the Old Church Inn and was about ½ mile from the hotel.

The room was functional if slightly basic and cramped but it served the purpose for a night to break up our road trip. Limited TV channels, tea and coffee in the room, no safe, no fridge. This is basically a dreary business hotel which serves well the dreary requirements of a business traveller. Not a touring holiday type of hotel.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your review. If you had requested information from our reception desk about the area we would of been more than happy to advise the best places for eating and for dog walking. Our local pub is not the Griffin, there are food pubs closer for example the Church View, there are also walks and fields that you could of taken the dogs too and again if you'd of asked we could of advised you to these. As for the TV channels we have both freeview and sky in every bedroom, I would not class this as limited. We clearly advertise we are in the heart of the North West's commerce, industry and leisure venues, and yes we do get business travellers, but to insinuate their needs are all uninteresting and dull is irrelevant to the hotel. The hotel serves the needs of all our guests and our staff are more than willing to help anyone.
