My friends and I have stayed here many times when cycling the c2c route over 2 days and are always looked after come rain or shine. The welcome is great, the rooms and food are great and there is a safe place for the bikes and an area to dry wet clothes. Perfect for us.

Hubby and I stayed here for two nights on 12/13th August. We were really impressed with the room, the staff and the food. A friendly atmosphere was all around the hotel and nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly staff. The room was very clean and the bathroom was very modern with a roll top free standing bath. ( We actually asked for a room with a shower but on seeing the bath, we didn't mind) The room was at the front of the hotel and had wooden shutters on the windows, closed at night, they give a really black room , just as we like it. The hotel cafe was greaat with home baking, the luscious millionaires slice is to die for! Can't fault this hotel anywhere, Would recommend it to all.

Room Tip: Only been in the one room, room 6, and would recommend it if you like a bath and not a shower.

The Alston House hotel is located near the centre of Alston, the highest town in England. Its a town with a bit of history and is located close to Hadrians wall and the Pennine Way. There are a number of walks close to hand and the town has a steam train - which is a lot of fun for all ages. We had a nice room at the hotel and the food was of a very high standard, featuring a lot of local produce. So although the outside of the building looks a little traditional the service inside is good.

The hotel and staff were excellent. The other guests were mostly ramblers and everybody seemed to be in good spirits, so the atmosphere was a pleasant one.

If I get the chance, I would love to stay here again.

Myself and a friend stayed overnight Sat/Sun 26/27th July 2014. We enjoyed an excellent stay at a well appointed hotel. The staff and food were excellent.
On the Sat evening we ate in the hotel restaurant with food and service first class.
We would not hesit6ate to return to this hotel again.

If you want a quiet break in a scenic, unspoilt, uncrowded area of England, this is the place. Alston is on the Pennine Way and is an ideal base for exploring the whole region between Carlisle and Newcastle, either by car or bike or on foot. We only had two days but managed to fit in half-day visits to Housesteads (on Hadrian's Wall - the most complete Roman Fort in Britain, free to English Heritage & N.T. members), High Force waterfall, Barnard Castle, another E.H. site, and a must-do drive along the A686 (stop anywhere, admire the scenery, and just listen to the silence. It's magic.). Alston House Hotel is fairly unimpressive from the outside, but it is a Grade 2 listed building, and the owners are limited as to what they can do (hence the lack of double-glazing!). Inside a few of the corridor floors and ceilings have abandoned any attempt to remain at right-angles to their neighbours, but don't let any of this put you off. The staff are friendly and helpful, the bar and cafe are well stocked ( a good range of beers and home-made cakes), the food is first class, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, all with recently refurbished en-suite bathrooms, and there is a pleasant quiet garden for relaxing. All round this hotel is up there with the best.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the hotel have the best views.
