“Simply idyllic .....”
Reviewed 29 January 2016 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed at La Dolce Vita late August for ten days late August. What an amazing place for a holiday!!!!!!

Arriving after dark, it wasn’t until the next morning that we really got to see the beauty of the location. The views? Jaw-dropping.... Uninterrupted right across the hillsides to the marshes beyond, just outside the fishing town on the coast.

Your accommodation is a converted shepherd’s dwelling. It is simply and sweetly furnished. With a double-bed, air conditioning and a lovely rain shower, we were very comfortable. Plenty of space outside too. The outdoor kitchen, bigger than my own at home, was quite a novelty. You can eat al fresco, chill in the hammock under the fig tree. In fact everything is carefully positioned to capture those views, whilst giving you privacy.

Our hosts Clelia and Andrew are wonderful people. Warm and genuinely helpful. They really want you to have the best possible time. Both can give you a wealth of information on the area, and should they not be around, there is a communal room crammed full of leaflets and maps.

We were lucky enough to have a trip out on Andrea’s boat. From the fishing town to Punt Ala. Stopping every now and again to take pictures or have a dip, or play cards. The perfect unwind .... And you absolutely must have one of his fish suppers. Another highlight of our stay. He will spoil you with tasty delights, more than you could ever eat (he is from a fishing family), the wine too just keeps on coming ……

If you are not familiar with the Maremma region, it has a lot to offer whether you are a foodie (Andrea gives cooking classes), into watersports or are after great countryside. Saturnia thermal springs is not far away. There are marshes and woods to explore, fortified towns, Etruscan settlements and some of the best beaches in Italy. Cala Violina is an unspoilt cove well worth the walk through woods to get to.

Clelia and Andrea have created something very special here.

We want to go back. Recommend, recommend, recommend ……

“Amazing romantic getaway in undiscovered Tuscany!”
Reviewed 5 October 2015 for a stay in July 2015

My husband and I enjoyed a beautiful honeymoon here in July 2015. The property is truly magical and the apartment is comfortable and beautifully designed. It has a private hot tub or plunge pool, and a beautiful scenic overlook with sunbeds. Vetulonia is a 5-minute walk, and is a lovely ancient village with a small cafe, two restaurants, an interesting archeological museum, and a great small grocery store. It was friendly and not very touristy, even in July. We had one of the best meals of trip to Italy with chef Andrea - affordable and highly recommended! Clelia and Andrea were wonderful hosts who went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. This is an ideal spot to relax and use as a hub for your time in Tuscany, if you rent a car - we stayed one week but wished it had been two. We can't wait to go back!

“Slow living and glamping in Tuscany”
Reviewed 1 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Staying at this darling little stone house was everything I expected and more. Clelia and Andrea are warm and helpful hosts, Andrea's cooking is not to be missed, the views are awesome, and having the donkeys (Stella and Gina) come by each day for a snack was a unique experience. As a solo traveler, I was able to balance alone time with spending time with the interesting couples who rented the other properties at Il Baciarino (baciarino is the name of a tree that grows in abundance on the property).

i have no words to describe this place. Fantastic is not enough.
the House: beautiful, even nicer than in the pictures. quiet, breathtaking views, and so special! the fancy shower is the best part hehe!
the Hosts: i never had such nice hosts. Andrea and Clelia are warm and caring. they also have plenty of suggestions for secret places to visit. you HAVE TO have dinner at their place. Andrea is a fantastic cook. best dinner of our holiday.
Vetulonia: a nice little village, feel cozy and welcoming. it is close to so many little hidden beaches, the beautiful Castiglione della Pescaia, but also very nice countryside full of delicious little restaurants.
my advice: STAY HERE if you get a chance! i am recommending it to all my friends!

“Fantastic!”

A fantastic great Cottage hillside near the Vetulonia Village. This is glamping, it's just great. Okay, the way to the beach was 22 minutes everyday but we enjoyed the wonderful stilish renovated Cottage with great bathroom, open air-kitchen and best views of hills and sea. The only thing to think about is the sleeping room at the first floor, it was too hot during some nights, maybe would a air condition help a little bit.
Clelia and her Husband are wonderful heartly people and the rich and great fish dish we ate in the middle of the week at their house was just fantastic. It was the best food for us during the whole week. No one cook in one of all italian trattorias and restaurant can make the quality and the greatness of Andrea's dish. His cooking skills are fantastic.
We liked the openair kitchen and the heartly and open mind of the owners and last but not least the two donkeys (mother and daughter) which visited us every morning for breakfast time.
Great Value!

“A fabulous stay, breathtaking views & amazing cooking”

We just returned from a fabulous stay at Il Baciarino's La Dolce Vita cottage.

It turned out we were the first guests to stay in this amazing casetta: the remodel of this former shepherd shelter had only been completed a week before our arrival (there is one other cottage on the property, La Quercia).

We really loved the details of our cottage: the choice of natural materials & muted colors throughout the property, the spacious bathroom with rain shower (& a view!), the well equipped kitchen under the fig tree - along with the endless vistas of the Tyrrhenian Sea ...

Loved the location, too: nestled into an olive & oak grove, it is completely private and quiet, yet it just takes two minutes to walk up to the main square of Vetulonia for morning coffee (or evening aperitivo) at the local bar or provisions from the local alimentary ...

Just wish we had more time to enjoy this relaxing environment - could have spent weeks just chilling in the shade under the trees, watching the daylight change over the green rolling hills and Mediterranean sea in the distance ...

The real highlight of our stay though was a dinner with our hosts Clelia & Andrea, served on the terrace of their house down the slope from the cottage: prepared by Andrea with only the freshest local seafood, it was a memorable evening and truly one of the best meals we both ever had!

In the future, Andrea is planning to offer cooking classes, highlighting the local specialties of the Maremma region - another reason to return to Il Baciarino!

Liked best: The views & tranquility: upon arrival we nixed all sightseeing plans for the first day and opted for a relaxing day in/around the cottage instead ...
Liked least: The fact that our departure date came up so fast ...
