This is an independent hostel set in a country house. Like all hostels the décor is simple and a bit battered but that should not detract from the delights of the property (original Adam fireplace in the dining room and some of the cornices give you a hint of what it was like). The views alone (particularly from room 7) are worth the price of the stay. I stayed in one of the smaller rooms (7) which has 4 bunk beds (8 beds) and lockable storage. The property was very clean, people couldn't have been more helpful, wonderful setting (there is a waterfall at the back of the hotel and a small alcove for bird watching if you get fed up with the views over Derwentwater. I ate dinner there and found it to be simple (typically 3- 4 choices for each course) tasty, largely homemade and freshly prepared. At £10 for two courses and £12.50 for three (cheaper for younger children) its good value for money.

Room Tip: The smaller rooms at the front of the hotel have superb views

Lovely setting, clean and perfectly functional. Really quiet too which was great for the children. Lovely views from every window. There were lots of other families staying here and lots of cyclists (there is a secure bike store). Parking is a plenty and lots of space for the children to run around outside.
The communal kitchen had everything we needed and we didn't feel cramped at all.

We self catered so I cannot comment on the evening meal and breakfasts that were served but there seemed to be plenty of takers which speaks volumes.

Our room was spacious and clean and quiet ( I have stayed in some really noisy hostels where the doors bang continuously). It's budget accommodation, not flashy, just functional.

Great, will definitely come again.

Stayed here one night when cycling around Lakes District. Got into Keswick by bike quite late and it was a dark journey down Barrowdale Road out of Keswick until I found it. Nice surprise.

Friendly staff, clean environment, didn't really have time to meet anyone but people seemed nice. Fair enough breakfast.

If you are looking for a clean bed to sleep in and clean bathroom facilities for a good price, nothing to complain about here.

Room Tip: you can hire towels / but bring some soap as there are no dispensers in the showers

Friendly and relaxed youth hostel right on the edge of Derwent Water. You can reach it by an hours walk or by frequent buses from Keswick.

The breakfast was basic but good, the rooms were nice and clean, the staff friendly and the lake a literal stones-throw away. The price was around £20 for a bed in an 8-bed dorm.

Plenty of nice walking nearby and a night walk from the pub in Keswick is possible but torches are needed as there are no street lights.

Being a big old Georgian house this place extensive and felt all the bigger with only 6 people staying! All the staff were super friendly and helpful - Nicola and Alex being standouts - and the relaxed nature of the place Mae it a pleasure staying there.

Would definitely recommend and would return. Only word of caution - if super busy it could be a bit of a queue for the kitchen facilities
