First stay, had upgraded room. View over cat bells range. So quiet. Peaceful and relaxing from check in to leaving. Stunning location. Scones delicious - bar staff very helpful and friendly. Garden, conservatory and bar area beautiful. Room very clean. Dog made extremely welcome. Restaurant staff were exceptionally attentive and welcoming. Food could not be faulted - extensive wine list and home made bread! Beautiful lounge areas to sit in. Proper old fashioned service - will definitely return

We have stayed at the Borrowdale many times, and I am delighted with the refurbishment, the rooms were very clean and the refurbishment of the bar area is good. As I am on Dialyisis it was difficult to sort the food out, but we managed to eat in the bar. We have stayed over the last twenty years and have got to know the staff well. And have booked a return journey for September

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view

This was our first stay at this hotel but it will not be our last. We were made very welcome at reception and we loved our room. We paid for an upgrade and it was worth it to have such a beautiful view towards the lake. The room was spotless, light and modern, and it was so relaxing to sit in the comfy chairs and enjoy the view. The bed was especially comfortable. My husband is a coeliac so must stick to gluten free food. No problems here - the restaurant manager went through the whole dinner menu with him and offered suitable substitutes where necessary. The food was very good and served very quickly. Breakfast was also good and the young waitress went out of her way to provide gluten free toast - a big brownie point for her. We liked the spacious lounge for our after dinner coffee and the whole relaxing country house feel of the hotel. And it even has free Wifi! Highly recommended for a short break in a beautiful location.

Room Tip: We had room 27 - it is facing the lake. Some road noise but not disruptive.

Thank you very much for your lovely review. I'm very pleased to hear that you like our recent refurbishment, as well as the small, but important extras, like the free Wifi.

In particular I'm happy to hear that we were able to accommodate your husband's dietary needs so well - I realise that such matters can add a modicum of stress to a trip away, but can be such a plus point when they turn out well!

Thank you again and we hope to welcome you back in the near future.

We won't repeat all the complimentary comments from other reviews, which we heartily endorse. However, we also appreciated the beautiful flower arrangements, the amount of space in various lounges with comfortable chairs, the peaceful atmosphere, the quality of the furnishings, and the lighting which gave a very cheerful ambience. This hotel is certainly a must. If you book a special Amazon Local offer, don't forget to ask for the free bottle of wine when you leave!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake

Thank you very much for your very complimentary response.

It always nice to hear when the atmosphere and feel of the hotel is well received, after all the planning, thought and effort has gone in to it. Since the refurbishment of the bar and lounge areas finished in March, we seem to be on the receiving end of lots of positive comments, which is just wonderful!

Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

PS I hope that you DID get your 'Amazon' wine....!!?

We stayed here recently. We specifically wanted a room with a walk in shower so were given the disabled unit. We later found that other rooms had showers that were not over a bath and there was a chair lift up to the second level, so if you do not require a wheelchair room these other rooms could be suitable. We had a dinner bed and breakfast deal. Breakfast had a good selection to chose from. Dinner was available in the dining room as well as in the bar/lounge area - but with different menus. We found the bar/lounge menu better suited to our tastes with larger servings. The rooms were clean.

Thank you for your excellent review - we are very pleased to hear that the various enabling elements that we have added to the hotel during the refurbishment are proving useful for you and also potentially for future guests. There are many, many suggestions as to what is necessary or might be appropriate to be provided, so it is nice when what we have chosen to do so far is well received.

Thank you for your positive comments regarding the various menus that we offer. The two menus are quite purposefully different, which seemed to suit you on this occasion.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

My partner and I got a good deal on travelzoo to stay at this hotel. Hotel is clean and tidy, clearly been recently refurbed but kept its character. We had dinner with paired wines - lovely food but for future reference would suggest that more explanation of the wine is given when it is served rather than just handing it over. also we each got the same wine which felt like it wasnt particularly matched to our meal. the staff were polite but not overly friendly. great views. would suggest reviewing the sensitivity of the fire alarm which went off twice in the 24 hours we were there.

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary, on arrival we received a warm welcome and were shown to our room which was a little on the small side but very nicely furnished and spotlessly clean, evening dinner was of excellent quality and the staff were very attentive, breakfast was also very good. Housekeeping staff also dropped in to ask if anything needed to be replenished in our room, I would recommend this hotel for a special occasion, we really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Check the room number that has been appointed as ours was quite small.
