“Perfect family setting and tech detox”
Reviewed 11 November 2015 for a stay in August 2015

I stayed at longthwaite with 3 generations of family and my girlfriend ( 6 adults and 2 children ) it was the perfect weekend getaway for an extremely good cost. Longthwaite farm is set in beautiful Borrowdale by Derwent water which for me is one of top spots in the lakes. Down the road is Ashness bridge and Surprise view which is quite possibly one of the most amazing views in the lakes if not the country. The Farmhouse is natural and as you would imagine it to be hundreds of years ago. If you are after modern amenties and strong phone signal you are not going to get it here but if you want a cosey traditional cottage to spend quality time with the family and have a bit of a tech detox this is the perfect place!
Keswick is not far away and is a great little town which has everything you would need to keep you busy. I highly reccomend this qaint yet spacious holiday cottage and it's beautiful setting. Perfect!

“Perfect cottage in a lovely setting!”
Reviewed 16 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We all loved it here at Longthwaite it was perfect for what we were looking for. The cottage is decked out in an authentic style throughout. It is clean and tidy with lots of utensils, books, games and firewood. Location was really picturesque. The cottage was really spacious for the 8 of us that were staying over. The owner at Longthwaite was great and explained perfectly what to expect out of our stay at the cottage. He also provided very thorough notes and instructions on how to operate everything at the cottage.
It's really lovely there and if you are looking for a traditional, old style country house with a rustic feel then Longthwaite is the place to go!
Thanks very much we had a great time :)

“If you like the authentic Lake District experience - this is for you”

It's difficult to say anything but positive praise for this holiday cottage. Built in 1691 according to the furniture inside, how can you criticize a building that has stood for over 300 years.

Deep inside a beautiful Lake District valley, close to a river, with mountain views pretty much out of all the windows it meets most requirements. Step outside and there are valley walks and mountain explorations everywhere.

Ok so there is no mobile signal and no tv, but despite the panicked look on the face of my teenagers they loved it. A week without the internet brought us closer together as a family,

There were some amusing comments in the guest book dating back to the 1960's so this place is no stranger to visitors and the instructions inside ensure you know where everything is. The owners have taken care of pretty much all possible requirements.

If you want to feel embedded in the Lake District this cottage is perfect. If however you like your modern luxuries; then best look elsewhere as you will have to occasionally get your hands dirty putting wood in the log fire.

Nature is very close by and we all enjoyed this place tremendously. I thoroughly recommend it if you want to get back in touch with planet earth...

“Amazing!”

It was such a good experience and we all really loved it! The serenity and peace of the surrounding area followed by the rustic charm of the farm house was simply breathtaking, we couldn't have chosen a better place for the weekend. The place was a little isolated (not completely!) which is good if you want to be away from civilisation for a bit without any phone signal or wifi - complete 48 hour internet detox we all went through, it was refreshing. There's a river right in front of the house and an area to hike, which was what we did before we settled for a night indoors by the fireplace. There was ample firewood to keep us warm and enough board games to keep us occupied. The kitchen was fully equipped and the rooms were very comfortable and charming.

We had a fantastic time and I'm sure you will too!

“The weekend away”

This traditional old farmhouse, right next to the picturesque River Derwent and satisfyingly far away from civilisation without being totally isolated, is the ideal base for a good long walk up Scafell Pike, taking in Lingmell, Great End and Glaramara as well. After a satisfying day's walk, the wood-burning stove gives the perfect warmth and glow to send you into a contented slumber.
Beautiful location, exquisite decor, spacious, very comfy beds with enough blankets and hot-water bottles to keep you wonderfully cosy on a cool spring night! Couldn't have asked for better.
