Initially the place felt cold and damp but we were advised of this and there were plenty of instructions on how to remedy it as there were also instructions for all the amenities.
Once warm the whole house felt cosy and warm. Some of the farm's equipment was dated but in the case of the furniture added to the charm. Walks and scenery were right on the doorstep.
Tim the owner rang us to check everything was ok and to ask us to leave things on for the next people. It was interesting to read comments from as long ago as 1964, the year my wife and I took our 11plus.
A big test for us was - would we like to live there - and the answer would be yes.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Longthwaite. Tim is an excellent host who was helpful throughout the booking process as well as checking up during our stay. A cosy, rustic house which offers a great way to explore this beautiful corner of the world.
Don't bother packing games/books for your stay - there are so many of them already there, and in wide variety! And often just sitting by the fire was sufficient for whiling away the evening.
Another WC would have been a great help, especially as a large group, but we managed in the end!
The locatin is breathtaking. The cottage was perfect.Rustic and homely. The sound of the babbling water running past the farmhouse was so therapeutic.. Our family had an amazing time.Plus the weather was kind.We would love to visit again.
