“Comfortable community-run pub with B&B”
Reviewed 12 May 2013

After our first day's walking we needed a comfortable bed, a hot bath and a good meal and we got all three here. A lovely atmosphere in the evening for tired walkers, breakfast was substantial but the lady on duty in the morning was very rushed and seemed to be the only person working.

have visited a couple of times now as stay in village with friends. the atmosphere is very welcoming and even though we are not locals, we are always made to feel as if we are! Have only eaten here once but the food is very good. Well worth a visit.

Whilst supporting a charity event with my partner running the coast to coast I stopped at the Fox and Hounds for a drink and to wait for him to run through, the welcome I received was so warm and welcoming they weren't yet open but made me a cup of tea whilst I waited. I went in for lunch once my partner had run through and the food was excellent they were genuinely interested in what I was there for and the friendliness, cleanliness and warmth made the experience fantastic. They run a B+B and camping field at really reasonable rates I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the pub and hospitality to anyone visiting the Lake District

This pub is full of character and the food is amazing, the owner is very friendly and came over for a chat. Don't normally have a dessert but had to indulge because they looked so good and I wasn't. Left very full but very content. Wouldn't hesitate to go back when we go back to the Lake District

Decided to start my Coast to Coast long promised walk , with my Border Terrier, on 18.2.13 after seeing a perfect Weather forecast for the week. Train to St Bees and a very enjoyable walk to Ennerdale Bridge, bit boggy in places to be expected in February after the rain we have had, but no jackets and for the majority of the time just a T shirt. Arrival at Fox & Hounds could not have been better. Dirty dog and owner shown straight to room , no house rules for dog or owner. Both went straight to bar after unpacking and were welcomed like they were valued guests, couple of beers, quick walk a hot bath and down for a meal which was excellent. Problem with TV in room rectified immediately. Breakfast following morning was superb and excellent packed lunch provided which I(we) enjoyed sitting outside Black Sail YH. Overall I cannot fault and it is fantastic value for money.
