“Short stay but super...”
Reviewed 9 June 2012

Just returned from a 1 night stay here but guarantee next time it will be longer. On arrival our hosts Ed & Dot couldn't of been more welcoming making us a full pot of coffee with lemon cake & biscuits while our 11yr old son was spoilt with ice-cream and juice...splendid start ! They asked what are plans were for our evening meal and after we said we'd try the local pub they arranged to book a table for us as it gets busy in the evening which they duly did !
We were then given directions to the beach & informed about which route to walk which was a great help as we've never been to this area before. The bedroom was spotless (No 4) which had fantastic views overlooking the village green and beyond. The breakfast certainly sets you up for the day & is all locally sourced but definatley not for the faint hearted but well worth it if you manage to finish it. It is in a quiet setting but we found this great & the mile long walk to the stony beach is extremley safe if you have young children as you may only see the odd farm traffic but we didn't see anything when we walked there. There may well be more excellent B&Bs in the area but for us theres only one place we'll be returning to & the sooner the better !!

Room Tip: Any bedrooms to the front of the house will have fantastic views...

i have stayed at black combe house 3 times
the first time with my 2 grandchildren who were allowed to play the owners guitar
as there was no family room available, toe owners provided a camp bed which my
grandson was delighted with as he was in the army cadets
the breakfast was superb. dot is very cheerful and welcoming
i went twice with my partner previously , and was offered tea and cake in the sitting room
we visited our favourite pub just across the road the king billy
and just will point out the proprietor and chef actually is from SOUTH AFRICA not AUSTRALIA
and his young son plays cricket locally.
we would stay again if we hadn't bought a static caravan in haverigg just
a mile or two away.

We stayed here in August as a mini honeymoon, we were going horse riding in the area. Nice couple who run the place, friendly. Room suitable for use, clean and lovely COMFORTABLE bed! We had a room at the back on the first floor, lovely view from the window, green fields, sheep and a horse. Front of the house was nice too, green play area, nice houses. Cooked breakfasts were great, didnt have to wait for ages. Evening meal not available however it was the norm that everyone went to the pub for their meal, best steak ive had. Downside for city people, virtually no phone reception, one pub, v quiet area. To be fair we didnt really explore the immediate area so i cant fully comment on that, but we were informed that there were some lovely walks around there. If you want to escape the rat race and get away from technology then i would say you would like this place.

We stayed at Black Combe House for 3 nights. The room was spotless, bright, modern and very comfortable. The hosts were very welcoming and could not do enough for you.
They were also fantastic with my daughter who has learning difficulties. This made us feel a lot more relaxed, as trying to explain to people that your child is not being naughty she just can't help what she does can put you on edge when in a different place.
Breakfast was really great with very generous portions.
We will be back next year without a doubt.

Black Combe House has the most friendliest, professional and mannerly hosts who have ever welcomed me to a hotel / B&B and the accomodation was excellent value for money. Clean and cosy rooms. A great breakfast that starts you off for the day. Excellent value for money. Very happy to recommend and I am sure you will enjoy your stay, in this most beautiful part of England. Room Tip: I am sure they are all as good as each other,

Arrived and was immediately offereda cup of tea and a piece of cake. Ed the owner then offered me a bacon sandwich. Nothing was too much trouble whilst there catering for every need. Ed and his wife Dot encourage people to watch TV in the front lounge which has access to Sky. The breakfasts are the biggest and the best i have ever had which Ed prides himself on.
Up the road is a nice friendly pub which is owned by an ex Australian Cricketer who is also a friendly person.
I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone, they even hace there very own dvd library so you can view films in your room
