Description: The Boot Inn nestles in the tiny hamlet of Boot, deep in the heart of the Eskdale Valley. Within easy walking distance of The English Lake Districts largest and most majestic fells, yet only 7 miles from the sea. We provide first class food, drink and accommodation with nine letting bedrooms, bar, conservatory and snug areas, we also have ample car parking and a large beer garden. The inn itself has been catering for the hungry and thirsty travellers since the 17th century, offering a selection of traditionally kept cask ales, fine wines, sprits, continental beers, soft drinks and excellent food. At the Boot Inn we endeavour to source as many of our ingredients and most of our produce locally including the almost legendary cumberland sausages. Everybody is welcome including our four legged friends. With real log fires for those chilly autumn, winter or even summer days, a warm welcome is always guaranteed. The valley provides a wealth of opportunity for outdoor activity with Scafell, Great Gable, Harter Fell, Bowfell, Crinkle Crags and many others all within walking distance without having to cross a single road! Cyclists can pitt themselves against the Hardknott and Wrynose passes, the steepest section of road in England leading to the Duddon Valley and Langdale.Plus we are directly on the coast to coast mountain bike route and have secure bike storage available. For those of a more spiritual and historical interest there is to be found the remains of a Roman Fort in the upper reaches of the valley and the beautiful 14th century church of St Catherines only a short stroll away. Slightly further afield attractions such as Muncaster Castle and Eskdale Golf Course are close by.

We called for lunch after a ride on the Eskdale railway. Unfortunately the Boot Inn did not live up to its beautiful location. The service was poor and the food average at best. The staff though not unfriendly were not welcoming. A call in the pub down the road made up for the lack of friendliness and we wished that we had spent the £140 with them.

Called in for a drink following our railway trip. Had no intention of eating, but seeing the food come out soon changed our minds.

We both had the burger which was huge and absolutely delicious.

Atmosphere is great, the staff were really friendly and efficient. I can imagine it's a brilliant place to stay and the location is beautiful. Fantastic to have a positive experience of the Pennington's!

Fenced in play area for the kids which is good, but only a slide and swings - which were a bit old for our 2 year old. Food was OK - big portions (too much really). My little boy wouldn't eat his kids pasta (far too much oregano in it). It was about £12.50 for a main meal, making it pretty expensive for a pub dinner in my opinion...

The food was fantastic. The best Black Pudding Starter I've ever had. Family friendly and reasonable in price. They have a small playground outside for children and car park.

We stopped here for lunch while on a day out on the Ravenglass to Eskdale railway with our 3 year old. The service was ok and the food tasty. Our burgers were well presented and filled the large appetites generated the the fresh air. The kids portion of pizza was large, (I could have eaten it and not been hungry afterwards) so bear this in mind. I think you can not have pudding and pay less although the menu implies you have to have both courses for a fixed price.

My husband enjoyed the beer and there appeared to be plenty of choice.
