“Cosy, friendly pub serving honest pub food of which some is home cooked.”
Reviewed 4 March 2011

We visited this pub today after an 8 mile walk around Harter Fell. It was the perfect pub for after a walk. Down the earth, friendly, nice pub food and good ale.

We had our 5 month old pup with us, and he was welcomed in, which was great for us. While we were in there I noticed he had picked up a tick off the walk, and one of the guys at the bar expertly removed it for me.

Thumbs up, highly recommended!

“Fantastic, just fantastic”
Reviewed 6 September 2010

We've stayed in the Duddon Valley for the last few years and without exception always go for a meal and a pint at the Newfield Inn. There's also plenty of choice available on the menu.

The food is always fresh, locally sourced, fantastic sized portions and beautifully cooked. They also some very decent ales available there too - Paul introduced me to Snecklifter (very nice).

Brilliant place for a fantastic hearty meal - especially after a day out on the hills.

“Delicious food at great prices!”
Reviewed 30 August 2010

it was the chips that sold it to us! I visited with 3 teenage boys for a quick drink in the middle of a walk in the Duddon Valley, August 2010, and ordered a couple of portions of chips - they were delicious! Crisp on the outside, soft and floury on the inside, big servings, big chips. So we went back twice, for dinner in the evening. The chicken nuggets are made from fresh chicken, the liver and bacon casserole was out of this world, the ham shank was a delight, the lasagne and the beef pie delicious, and the penne pasta just right. Several of the dishes come in large or small portions - beware, the large is large! The prices are really good too - £8-£11 for most main, large courses (steak is more expensive). The meat is sourced from 2 local butchers, the vegetables were just right. We didn't have puddings, but could see that the portions are generous, so if you have a sweet tooth, have the small main course! It has a lovely atmosphere, with people out to enjoy themselves, slate floor, traditional decor, with a very nice patio and a big field at the back for the kids to run around in - take a football! It's a bit of a drive up the Duddon Valley, but the views are wonderful and it's well worth the visit. The staff are friendly and helpful - when I phoned at 6.30 to book for 7.15, I was told I didn't need to, as it wasn't very busy - when we got there, there was only one table left - be warned, I would book, or aim for an early dinner, even mid week, and definitely on a Saturday.

“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed 3 August 2009

Wonderful pub in one of the Lake District's most beautiful valleys. Good selection of real ales and an excellent selection of home made traditional pub food. The steak pie is particularly good. They also do an excellent selection of desserts. An excellent place for a good solid meal and a pint after a walk.

They also do tea, cake and scones in the afternoon.
