This is the sort of pub that I'd go in anyway, for the beer (which was very good, on the basis of the couple of pints that I had) & the atmosphere. To find that it did really good grub as well was a bonus! I had as good an upside-down pie as I've ever had, & the rest of the family were well pleased with what they had. Service casual but attentive. One for the book - will certainly go back.

We were stopping in a cottage in Broughton at May Bank Holiday weekend and having seen the reviews thought we'd give it a try on the Friday night.

Nice atmospheric pub, looked likes the locals still use it as well. Food was somewhere between traditional pub fayre and gastro pub. What we had was really well cooked and well presented, good sized portions and not too fussy.

We'd certainly go back

We spent a week in a cottage in Haverigg where we were quite disappointed with our surrounding places to eat. By chance we decided to drive into Broughton and had a sunday lunch at The Black Cock. It was amazing! The inn is so lovely inside with a log fire and nice decor. The food was delicious and the prices were great. We were so impressed we returned here 3 times during the week! Children eat free which was an added bonus. We were made to feel very welcome and Im just sad that it is too far to drive here from home. Will visit again when I am next nearby!

Having travelled to Broughton for an afternoon family do, we found ourselves sat in the 'snug' of the Black Cock early evening talking to the regulars and feeling very much part of the furniture and fittings within no time at al1, this has to be the friendliest pub ever anywhere, the landlord and landlady can't do enough for you, the bar staff are incredibly efficient - the room was gorgeous and the food wasn't bad either. The village bakery, the village post office, the village grocers, not a single traffic light, and the most amazing thing...................no mobile signal......what did we do before mobile phones huh? we talked to people, and thats what we've done and we've come away with a few more friends and future dates booked!!.

A superb room: lovely décor, beamed ceiling, lots of space - and a great night's sleep on a comfortable bed with plenty of peace and quiet! I woke up in the morning and watched the village coming to life: the greengrocer arranging a colourful display of fruit and vegetables just beneath my window. It was like being in Camberwick Green!

We ate in the bar in the evening and the food was delicious and very reasonable - and the white wine was excellent (and perfectly chilled). Later we switched to some real ale and found they really know how to look after their beer. Perfect!

The service is very relaxed and friendly, but efficient. The Black Cock manages to make this look effortless somehow and still achieve very high standards.
Fantastic - thanks to all the staff for two very satisfied customers!

Whilst visiting the area myself and a group of friends called in here for food and drinks. Selection of food on the menu was great with an extensive specials board. When the food came it was very nice and we were impressed. Best peppercorn sauce iv tasted. Compliments to the staff and chef.

After one of the worst experiences of my life last year with the previous management team I am pleased to announce the Cock is back!!

Great management team in Andrew & Stacey with superb beers well kept and served as real ales should be!

The food was of a standard which some of the best hotels would envy, well prepared well presented and all at excellent value!

It was a pleasure to enjoy on the 3 occasions we visited this weekend!
