“Great nachos in a cosy pub..”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

We dropped in for lunch and ended up having some delicious nachos to share, with chilli beef. Wow! Brilliant. It is so good to get a great value great tasting plate of food, as this place delivered. Coupled with gin and tonics and a newspaper, this is a lovely place to grab a bite to eat. It got very busy, so perhaps not a great place for romantic lunch time meal, but otherwise, spot on.

“Substandard food”

We visited Cartmel for a short break, on our first night we ventured to the Royal Oak for dinner (the only pub in the village to show the football), we left disappointed, hungry and underwhelmed

“What an easter Sunday!!”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

After hearing several excellent reviews from friends about The Royal oak my partner and I decided to take a day trip to see what all the fuss was about.

We arrived at lunch time and altho the place was packed out we were greated by some very friendly members of staff and as it was a beauitiful day decided to eat in the moist amazing beer garden ive ever seen! All the food, drink and service we received was top notch! Cant believe how well they coped! Nothing was too much trouble.

Then to top it all off, members of staff were also entertaining a large group of children with party games, duck racing along the river next to the beer garden and an easter egg hunt. Makes me want to b 5 again! Very jelous! The effort put in by everyone involved, on what was clearly an extyremly busy day was unbelievable.

Will definatly be returning and would recommend this pub to everyone.

“Mr Jones”
Reviewed 21 April 2014 via mobile

visited carmel with my family this easter weekend and oue visit to the royal oak was fantastic, cannot praise the service or food enough. Despite the very busy bank holiday rush the food was prompt excellent to the taste but most importantly the staff were friendly and happy to help even though it was incredibly busy. a must visit as the garden is wonderful and child friendly, could not ask for more.
