We have just returned from a most relaxing two day break at this lovely hotel. Set in extensive well maintained grounds just a short walk from Cartmel village. From the lovely friendly welcome to the farewell "have a good journey" the staff were efficient and happy to serve..........nothing was too much bother Our room was well appointed with a stunning view. We enjoyed good wine at a reasonable price and the food was imaginative, well prepared, good quality and plentiful. I have no hesitation in recommending this family hotel.

Room Tip: Westmorland room on first landing.

This is a lovely place to stay. We had a great visit In January. We found the staff to be really helpfull and friendly. We stayed two nights and throughly enjoyed are stay. The uplands is situated in some beautiful country side and is great for walking in the hills. The only draw back for us was that we like to go into Cartmel Village to eat or drink in the evening and we had to take a taxi but if you are happy to stay in the hotel in the evening they serve a good evening meal
with good staff . Julie who owns the hotel is really accomodating and will go out of her way to help her guests. We would definitly stay there again

Room Tip: Some of the rooms had not yet been renovated so our friends room was lovely so may be ask for one th...

Although a lot of people that stay with us do walk up and down to Cartmel i agree it isnt for everyone and if you do ever stay with us again we are more than happy to arrange a taxi for you.

My husband and I stayed on a 2 night deal which included breakfast and evening meal on 1st night. I really can't fault anything about the hotel. The staff were really accommodating and friendly, the food was plentiful and well cooked, and our room (Duddon) was nice, clean and had a really comfy bed. The only thing I would say is that the hotel is not in Cartmel village but is around a mile walk outside along an unlit country lane. This is not a problem during the day, but at night it was pitch black and treacherous to walk back for fear of getting hit by a car as they fly up the lane. A taxi was not an option as the wait was over an hour. Fortunately I have a torch on my phone which was literally a potential life saver. I would thoroughly recommend the Uplands as its a lovely hotel, but if you intend walking back at night, remember to take a torch.

Thank you for your lovely comments about the Hotel, room staff and food we are really pleased you enjoyed your break.
Taxis can be difficult to get around Cartmel but if we know you want a taxi we do our best to book you one, unfortunetly just trying to ring one when you want one isnt always possible in particular at busy times.
If you stay again please let us know when you would like a Taxi and we will do all we can to pre order you one.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay in March 2014 on an Amazon deal, which was great value. Quiet location just outside Cartmel village and a good base for exploring the south lakes. Julie and the staff were very welcoming and friendly, especially smiling Sarah!

The breakfast was hot and nicely cooked and we also enjoyed a delicious evening meal, cooked to order and piping hot! Service was excellent although at this time of year there were no other customers in the restaurant apart from some of the residents.

We thoroughly enjoyed afternoon tea, although were disappointed that the cakes were not home made as promised.

The Leven room has not yet been refurbished and would benefit from updating. There was no headboard to the bed and no blind or curtain at the bathroom window, which overlooks the car park. Although the bottom window is frosted, there really should be something up at the window.

We enjoyed the view of the estuary and surrounding countryside and would love to stay again.

Room Tip: Leven room at the front has a great view of the estuary and is a reasonable size. The additional co...

A small and friendly Hotel with a very good restaurant and bar, Julie and her staff are always available, friendly and operate with a can do attitude. The food selection is good the quality excellent and the views from the Dining Room are exceptional. Julie has only taken over the hotel in July last year but has already put her own personality on the Hotel. The hotel is an ideal starting point to visit the Western Region of the lakes and you can forget your car and meander into the small town of Cartmel quite easily and for the more adventurous walkers the lovely resort Town of Grange over Sands is within reach

Julie and the staff at Uplands were very welcoming and helpful. We had two nights stay in March and thoroughly enjoyed the break. Our breakfast was beautifully cooked with local sausages, bacon, black pudding , eggs, beans, mushrooms really set us up for the rest of the day!
Our evening meals were delicious. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

The Uplands Hotel is a beautiful hotel, set in a great location for exploring the Lake District Peninsula and if you like walking like us there are plenty of walks to do without moving the car from their car park.

It is the relaxed atmosphere in the Uplands Hotel that is one of the key defining factors here. The staff are very friendly and very focused on ensuring their guests are completely taken care of and maximise the enjoyment of their stay at their hotel. The layout of the downstairs of the Hotel is completely conducive to relaxed friendly conversation between guests and staff alike.

The food is to die for! Portions are plentiful and cooked to perfection; compliments to the chef, which I gave personally too.

Special thanks to Phil also who looked after us; serving me the wonderful local "Gold Ale" throughout the 2 night stay.

On the Saturday after our walk we refreshed ourselves and my husband and I came to relax in the lounge area enjoying another "Gold Ale!" and watched the rugby alongside Phil and the Chef; lovely people who made you feel very at home.

Will definitely be returning and will most certainly be recommending to family and friends.
