Been again to the priory for my mother in-laws 70th. Absolutely fantastic hotel, rooms beautiful and spotless. Julie, Gary and staff are amazing, treat everyone like family. If you want a lovely weekend break or weeks holiday, you couldn't pick a more lovely place to stay. X

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful.

Me & the Mrs have just spent a lovely night in the Priory. As mentioned the staff were very friendly & helpful.
The room was (#1) beautifully decorated. Laura Ashley apparently.
The hotel is right in the centre, so its only a hop skip & a jump to the pubs & restaurants.
The breakfast took a while, but was well worth the wait.
There is limited parking at the side of the coffee shop for the hotel.

We stayed for just one night but will definitely be returning. Absolutely lovely staff who were very helpful. We stayed in Room 7 on the front which was great. We stayed the night of the England match and didn't find the front too noisy at all, we even slept with the window open. Lovely comfy bed and very nice bathroom. Sat outside in the afternoon and sampled the real ale which was brewed round the corner - literally. We had our evening meal in the hotel even though there are other places to eat. It was a shame that it wasn't very busy because we though that it was very good value. The bar is also a lovely area. Breakfast was very civilized with delicious warm pastries as well as full cooked. Very, very impressed. We went as a couple but will be returning with our son and trying the family room in the not too distant future. The only down side is that you cannot always park outside the hotel, but there is a car park a short distance away.

Room Tip: Room 7 was lovely

We have just spent another great weekend at The Priory. The staff are all so friendly from the moment you walk through the door. The rooms (we have stayed in two different ones now) are very comfortable, beautifully decorated and furnished). Cartmel is a lovely base for touring the Lakes

We stayed here for 2 nights. First night on a living social voucher and second night the hotel matched the voucher price. It was excellent value for money and I would definitely stay here again.

We were in room 6 on the top floor. It was very spacious with huge bed, sitting area and very large bathroom with corner bath. My parents stayed in room 1 on the first floor which was also very nice and had a lovely bathroom. The only thing I didn't like about that room was the lack of window in the bedroom. I would highly recommend room 6.

Breakfast was very nice and cooked to order although my poached eggs were solid! This did mean a wait after ordering but we were in no rush.
There is a small car park to the side of the hotel which we managed to get parked in. Tricky entrance/exit if you have a large car though.

We ate round the corner at the cavendish arms on the first night and were the only ones in the small restaurant. Food was lovely and it was beautifully decorated.
The second night we ate in the priory. Food was excellent and huge portions and reasonably priced too.
Our only niggle, and the reason this review went from 5 to 4 stars was an issue over the living social deal that we had on checkout. The deal included a free bottle of wine if you spent over £25 a couple. We dined with my parents on the last evening and had a voucher each so ordered 2 bottles of house wine. We were immediately told by the waitress that we could 'upgrade' the wine to a better bottle and just pay the difference in price. We checked the wine list and chose 2 slightly more expensive bottles, assuming that the house wine was the cheapest on the wine list. I believed that there would be an excess of about £5-6 to pay. WRONG!
On checkout there was a charge of £27 for wine!? I queried it with the young girl on checkout and she could not explain and got the manageress. I was then told that we could have had house wine for free but as we chose the 'upgrade' we had to pay the difference between what the hotel buys the house wine in at and the list price of what we had. I found this totally bemusing and unacceptable. I can understand paying the difference between the 2 listed prices or the 2 buying in prices but not between one buying in price and one list price. Perhaps I should have clarified the extra payment on ordering but as the waitress was the one raising the upgrade I made a fatal assumption. This left us with a bad taste in the mouth on checkout and to be honest almost ruined our whole perception of the hotel. It felt like a cheap shot to try and recover some of the money from the deal.
That being said, we did really enjoy our stay and would return. Just a pity about the treatment on checkout.

We booked the Priory on a recommendation from my wife’s friend who had stayed there previously and who raved about how beautiful the village and hotel was. We booked for one night on the 4th May and were not to be disappointed. On our arrival were given a warm welcome from Julie and were shown where to park the car ( if the small car park is full the hotel has passes for another car park ). We checked in and was given room No1 which was on the 1st floor which when we arrived and opened the door we were greeted by a spacious and beautiful decorated bedroom with and en-suite that had a free standing shower cubicle and separate bath. After settling in we ventured down stairs to the bar area and ordered a drink whilst looking at the dinner menu for our evening meal later on as we had read reviews about how good the food was. The evening meal was really tasty and value for money and I can recommend the steak and ale pie which is made at the hotel. Afterwards we wondered out into the village after our evening meal to see what Cartmel had to offer eventually making our way back to the Priory Hotel where we once again had a few drinks in the bar area before we made our way to our room and our comfy bed.
Breakfast is served from 8.30am and again we were greeted by the friendly staff and shown to the breakfast area. You have a choice of a light breakfast which includes porridge, scrambled eggs etc or the full English breakfast with plenty of fresh orange juice, tea and coffee on hand. The breakfast is just the right amount and sets you up for the day if you’re checking out or making your way out for the day.
I can’t recommend this hotel too highly for quality, friendly staff, and value for money and situated in a lovely part of the Lakes. It’s ideal for a romantic getaway or for a short family stay and we will be certainly be going back to the Priory Hotel again.

Room Tip: Room No1 is perfect and very bright
