We visited back in May as an anniversary treat, apologies for the late review. The whole experience was fantastic. We were booked on the 2 night break, on arrival we were upgraded as it was a special occasion and as we have never been lucky enough to get upgraded for anything we were thrilled. Our room was to die for, huge bed, huge bathroom, perfect. Nothing however comes close to this restaurant. On arrival we were wished a Happy Anniversary and shown to a delightful table over looking the garden. Every dish was divine and at one point we wanted them to stop bringing the courses as it meant it would be over too soon. Each course was explained and how to eat suggested. Again a lovely touch was an additional anniversary chocolate desert for us. The restaurant is in a gorgeous setting, the restaurant itself was beautiful, the staff lovely. We have now bought one of those savings “ cans” that you cant open without breaking so we can save to go again next year !

We had a very nice evening here and enjoyed some exceptional dishes during the impressive tasting menu. However, there were some minor mis-steps which detracted from the overall experience, and at this price point those mis-steps rankle.

If you plan to serve umpteen courses over 3 hours or more, then comfortable chairs are a must and sadly the ones here are ‘form over function’. Whilst the vast majority of the menu was delicious some of it felt a little like we were either being experimented upon or that the dish hadn’t been tasted in the kitchen ever! The mackerel with tomato relish was quite revolting: the relish was overwhelmingly powerful and destroyed any hope of enjoying our favourite fish. Razor Clams and custard was another experimental step too far for me. Otherwise, the food was brilliant. A particular highlight was the small but very tasty morsel that was the duck egg with truffle and 5 different types of chard. It may not sound like much, but the taste and texture was amazing. For whatever reason Simon Rogan seems to have declared war on sweet desserts so if you have a sweet tooth prepare to be disappointed!

We visited a couple of years ago and found the service to be friendly and discreet. On this occasion the dining room felt like a hive of activity with a multitude of interruptions to our conversation, and it didn’t feel as friendly or relaxed. I guess the effort to gain another Michelin star is in full swing and as a result there are an army of staff to contend with. Despite the volume of staff, quality was patchy, with a disappointing encounter with the sommelier in regard to wine advice and recommendations.

We had a nice time, but with prices increasing and enjoyment decreasing, I suspect it’ll be a long time until we return.

We had visited the lake district several times but had avoided l'enclume for the reason that is seemed quite pretentious that they couldn't provide a menu as they will only cook what is fresh on the day.
From first entry we were made to feel welcome, all through every member of staff was friendly helpful and willing to talk to us, it was evident that everyone was very passionate about the food and working within the restaurant. We were also given a tour of the kitchens afterwards despite us being the last ones to leave and slowing them down on closing up.
The food as expected was excellent, we opted for the 18 course tasting menu and were in the restaurant for over 3 hours. Everything was incredibly well presented, very tasty and some fantastic textures.
I would happily recommend to anyone to go here and we will certainly be going back.

Birthday treat for my wife.
The food was lovely. However, the experience was spoiled by a waiter insulting our lady guests.
I am not sure that we will visit again.

Wow wow wow and what a treat. From entering this rustic restaurant the service was second to none. The staff trained to the highest standards, I had the 8 taster menu which was running from start to finish. The staff explain what every course entails and how it’s bought to the table from there farm.
They do an 18 course which if i was so lucky enough to go again I would try. Thank you to all at l’enclume for making my day special.
