Very calm and large cottage in the middle of the Lake District with everything you need inside and amazing views around. We stayed there with 2 families and kids and everyone loved it.
A wonderful place to stay, slightly off the beaten track, but well worth it. Communication and booking with Candy couldn't have been better or easier. Everything in the house was great and the views are fantastic. Lovely walks all around, an ideal place to take the family to get away from it all. Wouldn't think twice about booking again when we go back.
High ground cottage catered brilliantly for three generations of our family plus dogs. It's location means it is within reach of the best of the Lake District plus the beaches of the coast -ideal if you have children and dogs with you. There are good walks from the house and it is a very peacefull location. The house is very well equipped, I don't think there was anything we needed that wasn't there (even an egg poacher) and it has an apparently endless supply of super hot water! The views are outstanding and as we were blessed with brilliant weather we enjoyed them from nightly BBQs . I imagine the log burner and open fire make it lovely and cosy in cooler weather, sadly it was too hot for us to need them on!
Booking directly with the owner made it a pleasurable and more personable experience than dealing with a faceless agency. We would certainly go back to this cottage.
The location of this cottage is idyllic. Every room has magnificent views of the mountains, with just the chirping of bird song and the odd bleat of sheep, a complete contrast to stressful life in Surrey!
The cottage itself is very well equipped and has a very homely and spacious feel and there was ample room for all ten of us. The main sitting room has a wonderful cosy feel with TV and large bookcase offering a wide choice of literature.
High Ground is completely off-the-beaten track but there are lots of local walks to explore. We particularly enjoyed the walk to the little mountain lake of Devoke Water, and the Stanley Ghyll waterfall is well worth a visit, a hidden treasure, only 2 miles from the cottage, follow the signposted track, you will hear the water long before you see it!
There was also lots to keep the children entertained. They particularly loved going on the Eskdale stream train that took us to the seaside. The Owl Sanctuary at Muncaster was also a great success.
We can't wait to return to this beautiful part of the Lakes.
