A wonderful weekend away. The rooms were really nice, clean and modern. It rained when we was there but after a long walk in the hills it was great to get back to the hotel to chill out and enjoy some food in the bar. Bathroom was the size of most b&b bedrooms. Great views from the hotel.
Dinner was great.
Staff were nice and polite.

A wonderful short break, just a couple of days with my daughter and son in law, also the family dog.
The staff were superb, the room was excellent, the food was so good and no rip offs for anything, not even the evening tipple.
No charge for the dog and no restrictions either, so the title dog friendly is well earned.
We will be booking again for next year ( if we can still get in after this revue )

We stayed at Irton Hall for two nights from Friday til Sunday. It poured down all weekend so it was hard to find things to do.

The hotel itself is beautiful with a picturesque scene and lovely spacious rooms. The beds are massive and includes a tv with freeview, fridge, tea and coffee, ensuite jacuzzi bath and shower. We were on the ground floor at the back of the hotel overlooking the self catering cottages.

On the Saturday we headed to seascale to look at the beach however it was raining so heavily we turned around and came back. Then we went to muncaster castle to see the owl sanctuary but had to leave after an hour because of the weather again.

All the towns that surround Irton Hall are very very small with very little. We found that if you want something a bit busier and bigger, you need to drive about an hour away. We drove to cockermouth but it seems nowhere served food on a Saturday night so we ended up at a pun ten minutes away from the hotel in the end. Of course you can eat at the hotel but we preferred not to.

I think if the weather had been nicer we would have had a more enjoyable time however the hotel is lovely and I can't fault the service.

The only thing that did annoy me was that the fire alarm went off at 4am on Sunday morning. We were all stood on the front lawn absolutely freezing, we waited five minutes before finding out that no staff were staying on site!!! In the end the guests decided to call the fire brigade as we were all stood there like lemons. About ten-fifteen minutes later a member of staff turned up. As everything is so far away, it took a while for the fire brigade to turn up too!

We loved this place. For the price we paid (£75 online) it was by far and away the best value we had in England. The place looked like a castle and has an interesting history. The large expanse of lawn in front of it made for a great spot to sit in the late afternoon sun with a couple of drinks, and the views from our room over the lawn and to the mountains beyond we're so picturesque. The rooms were extremely comfortable, clean, we'll furnished, large, modern and huge bathroom. Would love to have stayed more than 1 night but they were booked out.

Breakfast was huge and excellent - could not fault this place at all. Only downside was that it made everywhere else we stayed seem dull and over priced in return!

Irton Hall was steeped in history, with the building now divided into seperate accomodation. Our room was huge with views across the front garden ( including the Kings tree ) including ensiute. The rooms are neat and tidy but very basic, but worth the money. This B&B is popular with hikers and those who love to loose themselves in the beautiful scenery. There is a restaurant within the building serving good quality meals and a full bar. We liked this place.

We booked Irton Hall last minute and received a great discount for our 1 night day as we only paid £50 for a double room. Irton Hall is a very 'grand' building and our double room was huge - as was our bathroom. Our room came complete with TV, king size bed, tea/coffee, and the bathroom had a jacuzzi bath and a shower. The breakfast was good and included a selection of cereals, toast, juice, tea/coffee and a full english breakfast - served with either a black pudding or haggis.

The purpose for our visit was to climb scafell pike the next day - it was the perfect base for this as the start of the walk was only 25 minutes drive away.

Would definitely recommend.

A nice, dog friendly hotel - the room was a very good size, as was the bathroom, and it was clean and comfortable. Well located for our walk up and down Scafell Pike, which is only a short drive away.

We were given a quick tour of the hotel (bar, restaurant and room) by Tom, the manager on arrival. He was very friendly and welcoming.

Although they don't allow dogs into the restaurant area, where they serve breakfast, they are welcome in the bar area and so, helpfully, our breakfast table was set up in the bar area so we could eat with our dog.

We only ate breakfast at the hotel - but this was fine.

It's a grand old building and well maintained. It's perhaps short of something like a swimming pool or spa area which would be the finishing touch to a very nice place to stay.
We'd happily stay here again.
