“Can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2011

Just returned from a lovely 2 day break with my family. We were greeted by the new owners who are the nicest, friendliest people you'll ever meet and shown to our spacious Double/Twin Rooms with very comfortable beds, TV and tea making facilities. There are gorgeous surrounding views from the Guest House and we were thrilled to eat a fantastic English breakfast watching the Red Squirrels feed in the beautiful garden next to the apple orchard. Eskdale is such a lovely, picturesque, peaceful place and the ideal location to wind down away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Check out Wastwater which is a 15 min drive or the steam train to Boot. Really can't wait to return to Forest How.

I stayed here on a recent hiking trip. It had every thing I needed clean room, great breakfast, a packed lunch, tea / coffee making facilities, local information, great views a drying room and friendly hosts. They even stayed up late and welcomed me when I arrived late at night due to traffic. 20 minute drive to Wasdale Head and a 15 minute walk to a nice pub for an evening meal. What more could you want for the price? Maybe free wi-fi but this was available at the local pub. I would definitely stay here again

Had a wonderful stay at Easter. As usual, Diane and John were charming hosts, and the hospitality was faultless. There's a rolling programme of renovation, and on top of the existing attractions (fabulous breakfasts, gorgeous views, welcoming homemade cake, etc) the bed in our room (number 2, it has the best views) was super-comfortable with a new mattress and the bathroom included a power shower...lots and lots of hot water, too strong to have on full. I should add it's within walking distance of a nice pub/restaurant, the Bower House. What more do you need?

It's at the end of a lane about 15 minutes' walk from the pub, so peace and quiet is guaranteed.

We stayed in the annexe (two bedrooms, one bathroom) which was comfortable though certainly not luxurious.

Breakfasts were excellent. So nice to be served really good quality produce and decent coffee, rather than whatever was on special offer at the cash and carry.

Irton Road station is just along the lane so a car is not essential, but makes it easy to reach Wasdale Head, from where you can do a real marathon circuit of the mountains.

Our hosts were friendly, as were their dogs.

For food, try the Bower House Inn. There is another pub within walking distance, the George IV, but it has among the worst TripAdvisor ratings I've ever seen and we didn't try it. The Bower House also has free wifi, and mobiles work at the end of its carpark, though apparently nowhere else for miles!
