We booked this hotel for one night between Christmas and New Year for a family wedding be held nearby. The Hotel is as named an Inn dating back to 17th Century and you can feel the history as you walk in. The warm cosy fires, excellent food and friendly helpful staff were a delight on our arrival.
Our family room was set above the games room in the original building (there is a more modern annexe complex available) and was large and spacious with a good sized bathroom with bath but no shower (just a shower attachment on the taps).
The bedroom had two beds, a double for myself and my good lady however the mattress was way to hard for a comfortable night's sleep and a single bed for our daughter who had no complaints.
The wardrobe was free standing and unfortunately due to the uneven nature of the 'original' floorboards was unstable and should have been secured to the wall as when full the door swung open and the wardrobe almost toppled forward.
The room itself was slightly cool due to being on the corner of the building with only single glazed windows.
After attending the wedding we returned to the Inn before midnight and were looking forward to a bath but unfortunately there was no hot water.
When we awoke the next morning we found out there was still no hot water nor heating. We had to boil the kettle to make having a wash bearable (I know we're getting softer now we're older) but unfortunately the sink plug surround was loose and the water emptied out as soon as it was poured in!
We made our way to breakfast which was absolutely delicious alongside the warming fresh coffee where we mentioned the lack of heating and hot water only to be informed 'yes we think the boilers is broken' not even an apology!
On Checking out there was again no apology or even an offer of a reduction in the room price.
A lovely Inn set in a beautiful location with great food and generally helpful and amiable staff let down by the facilities.
I contacted the manager but have had no response.

Recommendation stay in the annexe their heating and hot water was fine!

Room Tip: request a room in the more modern annexe and don't miss the breakfast

We stumbled on this superb Inn/Hotel on a recent trip to the Lakes and were very impressed
The accommodation is a good standard and the warm welcome and high standard of service was superior to the majority of similar hotels we have stayed at in the Lakes. But their best asset is their food which was excellent. It was good to see a kitchen team being led by a Chef/Patron (Mr Morgan) which makes such a difference as it was obvious that a lot of time and effort had been put into the well balanced Menu. Keep up the good work.We will be back soon

I recently had a weekend away at the Bower house and it was amongst the best I have ever had. What a great place. The staff and service were second to none, the accommodation far surpassed my expectations and the food was out of this world, compliments to the Chef and the Kitchen team as well as the hotel staff. The Bower House Inn comes highly recommended from me, Ross Kinsey.

Stayed the weekend at the Bower House Inn, was sceptical at first as have stayed there many years ago and found the hotel a little below a standard I would have liked, however it is clear this hotel is on the up. There seems to be a new team in the Hotel who are nothing more than friendly and intent on making your stay as perfect as they can make it. I do note others have said the place could do with a slight makeover, and staff there have plans to do a significant amount of work. As it happens I love the hotel in its current guise, it just has a lovely feel about it and is set in a truly wonderful location. Having stayed on a B&B basis I can only comment on the breakfast, this was lovely, freshly cooked and plentiful.
For a relaxing weekend away somewhere to wipe the stresses of life away, this place is highly recommended.

Just had a lovely two day stay at the Bower Inn. We booked with a KGB voucher this time but would be happy to pay their going rates in future. My first impression was a little mixed as some of the bar furniture does at this time look a little tired but picked up from Vicki that they were planning a refurbish very soon, and in any case the roaring fire that was going more then made up for any of my concerns, especially with a pint or two of that Keswick bitter what was on offer. The food was great, staff friendly and our room warm and cosey. If you might be looking and considering the Bower, now ( November ) would be a good time as the surrounding woodlands and valley are full of Autumn colour's to see.

Room Tip: Well we can only speak for the room we used which was the " Great Gable" room, guess it...
