Just come back from a few days in the beautiful Lake District and had the pleasure of sharing it with Jonty and his band of merry helpers. Who cares what the weather is like as you have this warm and friendly apartment to come back to that's joined to the best pub we've been to in years! The apartment is clean simple and comfortable with great views of the eskdale landscape with an open fire to warm the cockles and the pub has a great variety of real beers that will keep you occupied for hours! The best part however, is the way Jonty makes you feel like you're a long lost friend and when you leave you'll leave with a smile.

Room Tip: We hired the apartment that sleeps 8. More than enough room

A year on and a return to the King for 8 days. Could it be better than last year? You bet it could! The value remains the best in Eskdale, no, make that in the Lakes, in fact. Beer remains at £2.80 a pint for proper real ale (9 handpumps ever changing); so different to a nearby establishment which has "pack" and a product of sheep in its name, serving "beer" at £4.20 a pint, yes £4.20......
Needless to say, 99.9% of foaming ale was consumed at the King George, The Best In The West!
Roll on next year.....

Just got back from one of the most enjoyable mini breaks the wife and myself have experienced in many a year. This due not only to the beauty of Eskdale valley - a gem in any weather! - but also due to Jonty (the Owner) and his dedicated team.

If I could sum up our stay in as few words as possible - We arrived as strangers and we left as friends!

An exceptional haven in the modern world. - It's a real pub, real food, real beer.

You are made to feel welcome from the moment you enter the door - Nothing is too much trouble - as Jonty explains if you enquire what time breakfast is, "Eehh lad, who is on holiday here, tha or me? - You tell me when you want it!"

A true gem which we shall return to again and again!

I've just returned from a short walking trip to the lakes and felt it was the least i could do to leave a review of this place. After a long day climbing Scafell Pike in all weathers what a relief it was to find this place. A true jewel and welcome haven!!. With a larger than life and very welcoming owner (Jonty) who couldn't do enough to ensure you had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The room was very good and the bed very comfortable. There was plenty of hot water for the shower and also a bath to soothe your aching body.
The breakfast in the morning was certainly ample enough and delicious!!. Jonty made sure you were well looked after and nothing was a problem for him. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough, whether it be a one night stay or for longer. Thank you for your hospitality.

Just got back from 4 days in the Flat with our 2x Staffordshire Bull Terriers Sky and Maverick.
We were welcomed by owner Jonty a larger than life character who made us feel very welcome and throughout our stay he couldn't do enough for us.
The flat was perfect for us with its own entrance and small fenced area for the dogs.
The Staff take their lead from Jonty and all made us feel welcome whenever we went into the pub to eat or drink.
The food is locally sourced where ever possible and the steak pie is the best I have sampled for many years.
The food was always of a high standard along with the many real ales which just had to be sampled.
We were on a accomadation only deal so on the Saturday morning I asked Jonty if he could rustle us up some toast orange juice and toast each morning during our stay.
Yes was the answer so lovely fresh bread nicely toasted along with a teapot with 4x tea bags was supplied every morning.
I asked Jonty on Saturday morning how much I owed him for breakfast to which he replied Nothing, a few slices of bread and tea you can have on me a very refreshing attitude today and typical of the man.
The locals were all very friendly and it's obvious this is a local Pub used by locals which speaks volumes for Jontys aim to provide a pub for Locals and Visitors alike in perfect harmony.
In summing up the one thing even Jonty can't guarantee is good weather but I can guarantee you of a very very warm welcome.

We are from Holland and visited the Lakes seval times. We've stayed at the King George which was the best accomodation we ever had. The appartment was a delight to stay in. Good shower with plenty of hot water. Staff was really great, no nonsense and down to earth. Food was above average for a Pub with good quality lakeland meat. If you want to do some hiking at this side of the Lakes then it is a perfect place to stay. cheers Jonathan and his staff!

Hi im Brian and i worked for a year in and around Eskdale. I stayed in one of Jontys holiday cottages for the majority of the year and became a face known in the area. Myself and work collegues ate at the George inn on a regular basis and the food was of outstanding quality and always served with a lovely Cumbrian smile. I always was able to have a laugh and a joke with the staff and the atmosphere was always of good nature. If you are in the pub you are always welcome to join in and have fun and there was all sorts of different themed night which was a laugh. All in all the stay was marvellous and when i get chance will be venturing up to see everyone. Thanks Jonty much appreciated.
