I stayed here for a weekend and the location is lovely, in the centre of the Eskdale valley. It is a perfect location for walking . We did not move the car all weekend. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice view of the fells as well.
The food in the restaurant was very good, with a nice choice at a reasonable price. The bar stocks a good range of local real ales and they have a whisky list which the staff are happy to advise you on.
On the Saturday night we went to the Boot inn just up the road for dinner which was also very good, but a much simpler pub food menu. The Boot inn was a more down to earth place while the Brook House Inn is a little more refined which was what we wanted as we were celebrating an aniversary.

We also had a pack lunch which was good. they certainly cater for walkers.

i would definity return and would recommend it.

Excellent food, extremely helpful staff (Diane especially), and wonderful location. We had our two year old with us and had no problems at all - they even kept our milk for us and ensued we had a table reserved on our return. However, they must get the skip removed across the road that compromises the stunning views. But will return- especially for the ales and steam railway which were the highlights of our visit!

Obviously a very popular eating place as the place got very full with eaters in the mid evening. Food was good so we could see why.
Bedroom (6) was at front of hotel and comfortable enough. It should have had lovely views but the double glazing was full of condensation and condensation deposits so you couldn't see out clearly which rather defeated the object of having a (potential) view! This really should be sorted.
Breakfast was also good. Location is good, on the road to Hard Knot Pass ((very quiet road at night and early) and very close to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Station.
Room was £95 so not cheap, and we have had better for this price, but there is limited choice in that area and the convenience of eating in house was welcome.

Thank you for the response, we have now replaced the glazing in room 6 windows along with many of the other rooms which were suffering from the same condensation problem.

There is an ealier review entitled 'Reviews can be Misleading" - well yes they obviously can judging by that entry. We have visited this valley for 30 years and the Brook House has NEVER failed to impress with the quality of it's beer, food and welcome.

When we stay at the Fisherground campsite we will willingly walk the 3k to The Brook House in the evening, even after a full days hiking.

Even in the height of summer, when the place is packed, the service level and food quality do not drop.

We have just returned from a 4 day break in the Lakes staying at the Brook House - what a find! I have never been to the western lakes before - what scenery and tranquility - what a change from Ambleside and the likes.
We had booked B&B with the intension of eating at various places in the area BUT after the first evening we were hooked and ate in the bar every night - really good quality food with large portions and very good value - as was the beer and wine.
We stayed in Room 2 (probably their premier room - it is featured in their broucher) - very clean and spacious with a very good en-suite. The room overlooks the 'main' road but the only thing that will disturb your sleep is the sheep and birds.
As walkers we were very impressed with the drying room and the many walks that you can start from the hotel - we didn't even move the car for 2 days.
All in all a really superb hotel and we will be back - I wonder if the 1 star ratings are really for this hotel - are they really reviewing the Brook House Hotel at Boot !!

After the two recent "reviews" here, lets get a few things straight! This ain't a 5* London Hotel - thank goodness! It IS a friendly, relaxing, comfortable Inn with fantastic remote location, food and welcome. That's why we have been back about 6 times in the last 5 years....anyone who doesn't believe us please look out for the "too good to recommend" comments in the visitors books. Anyone who still doesn't believe us - try and walk in and get a table for a meal at 6.30pm at the weekend...it's packed - largely with locals. Unlike previous comments we looked at the ameneties and conditions of booking (which apply to nearly all hotels) and internet access is not listed and failure to appear or late cancellation incurs a booking charge. Being told that you can't have a service which isn't offered in the first place often offends those who can't be bothered to look. The services that are offered are great and will be provided with a smile. In summary this place is "Still too good to recommend" and unlike some previous reviews on here, is HONEST.
