“Great meal, a few steps up from pub Fayre! Lovely”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014 via mobile

We visited the restaurant here for a family reunion. The hotel is wonderfully clean, even commented on by my mother!

All the staff and owner were very friendly and helpful. The meals were well presented and tasty. The hotel had a deal on on this weekend which we took advantage off.

Don't go for pub food when this is so available locally.

Hi Nigel and Susan. Really sorry for the late response to your feedback but we are delighted that you all had a lovely evening. Glad your mum approved also!! We will have the special offers on regularly and we hope to see you again soon. As the winter draws in you will be able to sit in front of the log fire before and after your dinner! Take care

Booked last minute with the Hotel and they were kind enough to ring me to inform me I had booked the last room and the bed wasn't full size therefore gave me the option to cancel my booking.

Staff we friendly from the start and made us feel more than welcome.

Tea was gorgeous and the breakfast even better.

Highly recommended

Hi Mike. Thanks for taking the time to put a review on Tripadvisor, so sorry it has taken me so long to respond. We are really glad that you enjoyed your stay and that you didn't find the room too small. Hope to see you again soon - the sun is shining in Cumbria as usual.

On arrival we were greeted with a nice pot of fresh tea and home made shortbread in the lounge and imediatly felt at home in the huge leather sofa's.
We were due to stay at the hotel for 3 nights and by bed time on the first night we felt like we'd known the owners years, they were so friendly and welcoming. Our room was spotlessly clean and well equiped, the bed huge and very comfortable. If I had to find a fault, it would be the shower control, its a bit of a work of art to get the temprature right! Otherwise there were no issues during our stay. Deb and Jeff were great hosts, even letting us dig his lawn up!
The restaurant was superb and well on par with some much higher graded establishments, portion sizes were good and very well presented and a good wine list with "pop" recomendedby Deb. The breakfasts were also excelent both in choice and content, with plentifull tea or coffe and as much toast as you wanted.
We had a great aniversary weekend at the hotel, and will certainly be back, after all we feel like part if the family now!

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. An anniversary weekend is special, so it is important that you were relaxed whilst we looked after you. It is just a shame that you didn't find any treasures in the garden!! We are really looking forward to seeing you again in the not too distant future.

Although we only live 5 miles away and pass by the hotel almost every day we have never been inside but last night we came for an anniversary dinner and just wished we had 'found' the hotel years ago! From the moment we entered to the the time we left we were made welcome in comfortable and elegant surroundings and felt totally at ease. When I booked the restaurant I had asked about being seated in a secluded position and we ate in a secluded dining area off the main dining room which added an extra touch of intimacy to the occasion. The food was excellent, piping hot and beautifully presented and was accompanied by some excellent wine. We both felt that it was one of the best anniversary dinners we had ever had (after 48 years!) We left happily planning our next visit.

It was lovely meeting you both on such a special occasion. Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Tripadvisor. We are all delighted that you enjoyed your wedding anniversary dinner with us, and I know that we have dined with us since. I agree that it is a shame that we haven't met before, but hopefully now that you have found us, we will see much more of you.

What an absolutely fantastic experience, we stayed in this hotel to climb Scafell for a very personal reason. Two rooms book for a party of three and what an absolutely fantastic welcome we got from the hosts. They couldn't do enough were so pleasant. The hotel is lovely, rooms clean and very comfortable, its peaceful and the food is great. But what makes it better is that the couple that run it take the time to get to know you and do as much as they can to accommodate your needs - highly recommended. Don't think just book!

This has to be one of the best places I have stayed in. The hosts are very hospitable. The rooms are varied in size and layout, but well finished and equipped. If that is not enough the restaurant is not only well above the standard of most hotels, but is worth a visit in its own right.

Just spent a weekend at Westlakes with eleven other family members. From the moment we started to arrive on the Friday until we left on the Sunday the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
A special mention to Sarah who seemed to be everywhere in making sure we were looked after.
The hotel is in a great location for climbing Scafell Pike but still has that lovely elegant country house feel about it. We had breakfast both mornings and had dinner on the Saturday evening which was excellent both in choice and quality. Cannot fault our stay in anyway and will definitely stay again if in area
