We choose Overwater Hall for our wedding as we absolutely loved the character of the place and the friendliness of Angela, Stephen, Adrian and the rest of the staff. If you are looking for a perfect venue for a smaller wedding (we had 30 guests) Overwater is highly recommended. We looked around north Cumbria but couldn’t find anything as unique as Overwater. There are plenty of hotels that do weddings but we wanted something that didn’t feel like a hotel (a lot of the other venues shove you into a back conference room). Overwater is different as it offers you exclusive use of the venue for 24 hours so you don’t have the intrusion of strangers on your special day. For a fixed price you get so much – the venue for 24 hours, including the 11 bedrooms, a five course wedding breakfast, the wedding flowers, a free bar and the excellent attention of the Overwater staff.

Having exclusive use of Overwater provided real intimacy for our wedding. It really felt as though we were guests in a country home. We had photo’s taken down by Bassenthwaite lake and the whole venue provides fabulous photo opportunities both inside and out.

All of our guests were impressed with the venue and the rooms – each room is immaculately presented and feels much more homely than a standard room. Each bedroom is unique with huge bathrooms, each with separate bath and shower. Planning our wedding couldn’t have been easier – Angela and Stephen will be as involved as you want them to be and Adrian sat down with us to create our own special wedding breakfast. The food at Overwater is stunning. Overall a perfect place for a small family wedding.

We live only 30 minutes from Overwater Hall so it is easy to say, "Lets have a night away." Overwater is not the only hotel we use but it is by far the best.

The people who run the place care about their guests. They are welcoming but not overpowering.

The rooms are all different and the bathrooms are superb.

BUT above all the food is to die for. We always ask for an early evening view of the menu because an hour is spent pouring over it and imagining what is to come.

We are never disappointed. The very best of ingredients, great atmosphere and wonderful culinary skills combine for an unforgettable experience.

I love to cook and wish I could get even near to those standards. I was give some woodcock recently and asked at Overwater what I might do with them. I was immediately given three recipes to try and some verbal instruction. What more do you want?

Room Tip: They are all superb but try the turret

No sooner had I stopped the car than there was host Stephen waiting to take the luggage. This set the tone for the stay, attentive and friendly service in a relaxed and informal setting. The turret room booked was comfortable with pleasant views out over the gardens to the front and side of the house.
Travelling solo can be a daunting dining experience for both host and guest, but not so here. A nice amount of interaction both pre-dinner in the small but comfortable bar, and also during the dinner itself provided for a good evening.
Food was good, though not exceptional. Halibut on the first evening was very poor, but this was recognised and apologies given and accepted.
Given that it rained for virtually the 48 hours of my visit, Overwater Hall still managed to impress and for anyone looking for a quality experience I would certainly recommend a stay.

Overwater Hall is one of the best hotels we have stayed in for many years. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the rooms are large, beautifully decorated and spotlessley clean. The crowning glory is undoubtedly the food served in the restaurant, which is locally sourced and prepared and presented in a manner worthy of a Michellin star.

We stayed here for the weekend to celebrate two 50th birthdays. It would be very difficult to find fault with this hotel. Red squirrels and woodpeckers on the terrace and deer on the lawn, beautiful views of the fells, lovely walks in the grounds, excellent food and service, comfortable and spacious rooms. We stayed in the Garden Room as we had our dog with us and this room has its own terrace and private access to the grounds. Will we be back? Try stopping us!

Overwater Hall just gets better & better, each time we go we try to stay in a different room, still cannot decide which is our favourite. The owners & staff are very welcoming & friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The location is ideal, so quiet & peaceful, yet you can take your dog & other guests will not even realise it is there. There are red deer & red squirels in the grounds, we saw the red deer on our last night there while eating our meal in the restaurant. This time we stayed in room 4, which has its own sitting room & large ensuite with both bath & shower, there is a bowl of fresh fruit & a bottle of liquer so that you can have a warming tipple! it is all very clean & well cared for. Ive left the best until last-THE FOOD is absolutely FAB, the tastes & flavours are just out of this world with all sorts of meat & fish dishes, we have eaten in some wonderful restaurants all over the world, but Overwater Hall has got to be up there with the best, although the portions are not large, the 4 course evening meal will leave you very full, & combined with the wonderful breakfast choices you will not need another meal during the day.A sample of pud rhubarb pannacota with a shortbread biscuit parcel & gingerbread icecream in a brandy snap basket- wonderful

I was looking for a decent hotel for a short two night break with my wife and received the Trip Adviser top 10 UK hotels email, so I just chose one in an area we both liked and this was it..
We stayed in the Garden room which has a private balcony looking over the gardens where we saw many red squirils that come to eat the nuts provided by the hotel owners. We saw lots of wild birds too, including a woodpecker and a buzzard.
The room was very comfortable, service second to none, and the food excellent, though not necessarily to my taste for all four courses.

Yes, I would go back.
