We stayed one night on our way back from Scotland. Wonderful welcome, it was lovely to know our little dog was genuinely welcome. Nothing too much trouble. The staff are all very professional, the food outstanding and the bathrooms just wonderful!! Cannot fault this Hotel and will be back later in the year.

Room Tip: All rooms are different but all have lovely refurbished bathrooms.

My partner and I plus our two dogs have just spent a week at a lodge ( third time ) at Skiddaw View Holiday Park , which is close to Overwater Hall. We have stayed at Overwater Hall (See previous review) and both myself and my partner think that this has got to be one of the finest hotels in the Lake District. Anyway, we decided to book an evening meal on the Wednesday evening as a mid way through our holiday treat. A chance to get scrubbed up , dressed accordingly and enjoy a fine dining experience..
The meal was incredible as was the whole experience.
Angela , Adrian and of course Stephen cannot do enough for the guests , and believe me, your experience wil be memorable -for all the right reasons..
We promised Angela that we will return for another stay at the hotel very soon- with both our dogs!
Cannot say enough good things about the hotel and its wonderfull owners and staff.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Overwater Hall and very much appreciated the attentive management and staff, the high quality of food and comfort all set within a luxurious and relaxing environment, topped off by the wonderful natural setting and surroundings in which the hotel is situated.

It takes some driving down narrow country lanes – the last one not in the best of repair, by-the-way – to get to this well-hidden, grand old two-storey manor house north of Keswick. But the winding roads are well worth the trouble. First, the parking on-site is enough for all guests – unlike some other English inns. Then there are the staff. Angela, Stephen, and Luke are polite and classy in that English way that America sorely lacks. The rooms (we tried two) are clean and well-appointed. There is a snug but well-equipped bar near the dining room. The dining room (used for both semi-formal dinners, and for breakfast) is simple but elegant. We had a single dinner and, though pricey, it was delicious and of the highest standard – try the all-fish option!

Angela, Stephen, and Luke were always extremely helpful regarding local directions, dinner plans, and so on. And the wildlife mentioned on their website is, in fact, right there on the grounds. It’s a great place for birdwatchers – we saw the great spotted woodpecker, blue tits, great tits, and other English birds at the Hall’s birdfeeders. And, of course, the Hall’s mascot, the red squirrel, was there – sadly, it’s slowly going extinct in England due to the overaggressive imported American grey squirrel, so see the red squirrels while you can! They were right outside our window.

We will return to this peaceful, restful country hotel if we ever find time and money. The breakfasts are chosen from a menu, and the Scotch salmon and scrambled eggs is particularly good. From the Hall, you can go mountaineering nearby, or you can just sit in the grounds and write your memoirs. Highly recommended for the mature traveler who does not bring children – although children are accepted, they’re a bit out of place here. The nearby town of Keswick is small but charming and is good for pub food, and for purchasing footwear, outdoor-wear and hiking-wear.

If you want to get away from it all in the Lake District, in peaceful, elegant surroundings with excellent food and service then you can find no better place. Dogs are genuinely welcome with suitable quick walks in the grounds, not forgetting it is within easy distance of good fell walking. The room was very comfortable with an immaculately clean bathroom. Meals were excellent, using delicious locally sourced ingredients and the staff friendly, helpful and professional. All in all a great place to stay.

Right from the greeting as we entered and were shown our delightful room, the carrying of our luggage upstairs and downstairs to said room, we knew we had come to the right place for 3 days of R&R. The ambiance, delicious meals and amazing service, all created an atmosphere of country charm not seen in too many places around the world - and we have been to many. Nothing was too much trouble - we were made to feel very special, and hopefully will come back some day - maybe in the winter when the weather will be quite different from the the beautiful spring days we experienced. It was amazing to stay in a house built in the 1780's - before our country of Australia was even discovered - the decor of beautiful antique furniture, and magnificently restored rooms with wonderful cornices and ceiling roses were a joy to behold, and we really appreciated the modern bathrooms with both bath and separate shower.

Room Tip: All the rooms are delightful, however there is no lift, and only one ground floor room. But the sta...

A perfect Georgian House set in its own grounds and off the tourist trail. So many places say they welcome dogs and then charge at least £10 a night! There are no such charges here. The grounds have a lovely woodland walk, dogs can stay by their owners in the bar or hall sitting room and if your dog is well behaved he can be left unattended in your room at meal times.
Now what about us humans? The rooms are spacious - we had a bathroom with bath and walkin shower, a small sittingroom and a very comfortable bed, not to mention the fruit and fresh flowres. Meal times were a delight. Attentive staff and four tasty courses - try the lobster thermador. A great place to stay when visiting the lakes or travelling north to Scotland.
