“style, comfort and ambience”

we had 4 days in late july and the total experience from the initial booking process, to the welcome and the stay was excellent. The gardens are gorgeous. Our upstairs corner room was spacious with room for clothes to be put away. Touring advice was provided including the loan of maps. Meals were an occasion and the food was very good. A minor complaint was that being Summer there should have been more fruit at breakfast.
Although on the edge of the Lake District it is not far far from many beautiful drives and getting there is part of the attraction as the scenery is breathtaking.
to be recommended and one of the best places we stayed at over a long European tour

Room Tip: the upstairs corner room which we think was number 3 was lovely

My husband and I booked dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From the moment we got out of the car to the moment we got back into the car our evening was sublime! We were greeted by name at the front door and shown into the sitting room where a drinks order was taken, we were given menus and some delicious 'amuse bouche' The menu was fabulous! It took us ages to decide as we could have eaten everything it all sounded amazing! I had the fish selection to start and my husband had the Thai chicken soup and both were so lovely. They were beautifully presented and tasted out of this world. Our meal continued in the same fashion and we had coffee in the sitting room with homemade fudge. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to book Christmas Day Lunch here for the past two years but they are always fully booked well in advance and I'm not surprised! Treat yourself to an amazing dining experience - you won't regret it.

Fabulous hotel set in their own beautiful grounds with the stunning Lakeland mountains behind. The décor is just how you would expect a country house hotel to be and a lot of thought has gone into the decoration, fixtures and fittings. The hotel owners and staff were very friendly and did everything possible to ensure our stay was tailor made (we had an extra bed in our room). Our beds were very comfy, the bathroom modern and everywhere was spotless. We enjoyed the culinary experience, dinner was very special with an amazing menu and delicious food, as was breakfast. Your awards and recognition are well deserved. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the icing on the cake was being able to bring the dog. Thank you.

Room Tip: Fabulous hotel set in their own extensive grounds with a fabulous backdrop of the Lakeland mountain...

Acres of private woodland and grounds, large opulent rooms with views over the gardens and fells, perfect service and award winning cuisine. What more do you want? If you want to relax and get away from it all or use it as a base for exploring the Northern Lakes, this is the place. Chef proprietor and his team are obviously on top of their game. Dinner is a must. Although not a dog owner myself, this hotel obviously attracts those who are. This only adds to the country house atmosphere which it has in spades. I hope to return..

Room Tip: The website has pictures. Take your pick..I believe they are all a good size and in keeping with the...

Set in spectacular mountain landscape, Overwater exudes peaceful grace and just slightly faded grandeur. The interior style probably needs updating soon but the place overall is charming, very comfortable and spotless- this is somewhere to retreat to and relax. There's very limited 3G or broadband connection and that's about right since the place is about recharging and stepping off. The service is peerless. Our dog loved staying here (the Garden Room backs onto a fabulous section of lawn). The place teems with wildlife. Our 4 year didn't want to leave. The main meals are very good even if the context they're served in is a little out-of-time formal. The clientele it seemed, tended to be older rather than younger but everyone was mellow and the atmosphere was good. The place is rather special and the people running it committed to creating satisfied guests who return again and again. Long may it prosper!

My wife and I have just spent five nights at this hotel as our base whilst we explored the Lake District. It is simply a wonderful place. We were made very welcome and had complete relaxation during our visit. We had dinner in the hotel on our first night only but that was because we wanted to make the most of our visit as we had never been to the Lake District before so we wanted to explore to as late as we could. The dinner we took in the hotel was wonderful. Everything was tasty and cooked to perfection and all delivered at a pace to allow us to savour every mouthful. The breakfast is fabulous; all freshly cooked so piping hot and delicious; just the thing to set us up for a day of walking. There was masses of information available to help us Lake District novices to find our way around. My wife was overjoyed with the garden bedroom where we were able to watch the wildlife from first thing in the morning to late evening. The rooms are very well equipped with some nice touches such as the home made liqueur, the bottled water and fresh milk in a thermos flask for tea and coffee. The Jacuzzi bath was just the perfect way to relax after a day of walking. Absolutely the perfect place to stay in the Lake District for complete relaxation. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The Garden Room is fabulous.

Wonderful hotel. Staff outstanding. Rooms very comfortable, Garden Room a delight with nuthatches, woodpecker and red squirrel feeding on the terrace outside. Lovely setting. Delicious food. What more to be said!
