Owner description: Millom Discovery Centre, formerly known as the Millom Folk Museum, is located in Millom, Cumbria, England. The museum has a full-scale drift mine exhibit and also houses information about the local poet Norman Nicholson, the Hodbarrow iron ore mines and social history all relating to Millom and nearby surrounding areas. The mining being responsible for the rapid growth of the village of Holborn Hill into the town of Millom by more than doubling the size of the settlement. Now has a RAF display, set up by the original founder of Haverigg RAF Museum, John Nixon.

We found Millom a lovely place to visit, we packed the car and went for a walk to the beach. The beach could do with a good clean up as there is a lot of bricks rusting metal and a lot of stones big and small in mounds left around the boarder of the beach which really spoilt the scene as the beach in its self was lovely. We took a walk around the town and stopped to have a cup of Latte at a family run cafe, the owner who served us said because it is such a lovely day why don't you go and sit out in the garden which was down a flight of stairs out side the cafe but well worth sitting in and enjoying the beauty of the design and work the family have put into creating it, really nice welcoming people, enjoyed the visit to Millom thoroughly.

Make sure you have plenty of time to look around this place and read all the information. The RAF museum is now located in the museum which was just being done while we were there. Great information about the local history

Small place but full of interesting information about the history of the area. Would recommend visiting in the wk or a Saturday as the day we went (Sunday) tea rooms were closed and no train services on that day either
