“Spa Indulgence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2011

We didn't stay at the hotel but booked two purely treatments at the spa for last weekend. The treatments were excellent and the two girls were fantastic. Enjoyed drinks outside after overlooking the lake in a magical setting.

My husband and I got married here on the 4th September. We chose the venue after many visits that had created so many special memories. The hotel staff were exceptional on our day, they went out of their way to create a really special feel. Kelly, the wedding coordinator made sure everything went to plan, she was friendly, professional and supportive. Our wedding meal, the snacks and the canapes were absolutely perfect. We were running a little late for the scheduled wedding meal due to socialising with our guests and having a lovely boat trip prior to the meal, but despite this the staff were ready to go with piping hot food. Our ceremony was held in the main dining room, it was just perfect, classic sophisticated decor. Our meal and evening was spent in the new Windermere Suite which has been decorated to an excellent standard and was just perfect for our wedding. Its newly used for Weddings and we did pass on a little advice regarding the music system that may make it easier to use when hosting their next wedding. I stayed in the lodge with my bridesmaids the night before and then with my husband on the wedding night, it is a supurb room with perfect views and a private patio, also a sauna but i didnt have time to make use of it. Definately worth a stay in the lodge for a special occasion. The spa was fantastic as usual, i have had many treatments there, on this occasion my bridesmaids and I had manicures and pedicures. We were able to book ahead and all have our treatments at the same time with a glass of champagne. The girls were friendly and made us all feel very relaxed. Our guests felt it was one of the best weddings they had been to and that is down mainly to the hotel. Many of our guests stayed in the hotel and were very impressed with the quality and cleanliness of the standard rooms and the choice of breakfast in the beautiful dining room. So glad we chose our favourite English hotel. Will definately return !

Room Tip: The spa shouldnt be missed, if you want a treatment at aspecific time or with friends, make sure yo...

Just spent lovely weekend at this hotel with my wife and 5 year old daugher and the whole experience was much improved on my last visit around 7 years ago. The room was very comfortable well appointed and clean, the pool was good and the general bar and conservatory/garden areas were very comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant and whilst the service was slow the food was excellent. The free parking with a valet option was a nice touch but in particular the service everywhere and the staff were particularly good and attention to detail was superb.
Breakfast was ok but instead of the existing cooked options I would prefer a full english breakfast with a choice of components.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough and it compares favourably with somewhere like the Grand in Eastbourne.

My partner and I returned to The Lakeside hotel this week after our previous stay in August 2010. Once gain we both fully enjoyed our recent stay and must highlight that the friendly, professional staff are an asset to this hotel. Breakfast service was excellent on both accounts of menu selection and service.
If I did need to say anything negative it would be that some updating is needed at this hotel regarding redecoration. Our premium room showed signs of wear including marks/discolouration on the wallpaper and large stains on the seating area. Although this is not a huge problem this is unfortunate considering the rate you pay to stay here. The SPA area was once again clean and inviting. Overall it was a pleasant stay and with a few amendments this Hotel could be fantastic.

We booked a romantic break here for our Anniversary.
We stopped off at the front door, as informed to do so but nobody came out to collect our luggage - I ended up taking it in myself.
We were informed the room was ready early (which was a bonus).
The receptionist showed us around the bottom floor and then took us up to our room on the second floor - we had paid extra for a lake view room.
When we got to the room we were rather disappointed, the decor was mediocre and the wallpaper was stained and peeling off in places.
The bathroom was very small and the toilet was continously full and made a heck of a noise when flushed.
The bed was uncomfortable and too soft.
We used the spa which we thought was small, especially when the other guests start arriving in there. The pool and spa was unmanned and on a couple of occasions we witnessed members of the general public walking right through with their shoes on which left grit in the pool area and then when I was changing they walked through the changing rooms!
We thought the jacuzzi could benefit from a descale as there's a lot of dead skin on the tops of the tiles.
We went for a drink in the bar - the bar staff (especially one chap) are miserable and there's no atmosphere at all and no background music. The drinks though we thought were reasonably priced, the food on the other hand is not. In the bar area the meals are mostly £20 a head, the selection was not appealing ; there was pollenta, fish and chips, cumbrian sausage. The conservatory area was shabby and again the food in there was not appealing and especially not for the price - £46 for afternoon tea for two!
There was a restaurant which served meals for £37 a head (three courses) but were small portions (a la carte) but it was stressed that a certain attire was required. Unfortunately my husband had only brought his jeans and polo shirts so we didn't feel appropriately dressed to enter.
On the whole we felt there was no atmosphere and was not at all value for money.
We've been to much nicer, pricier places which had a better selection of food and much better atmosphere and decor.
For the prices they are charging I did expect a lot more.
Shame.

Room Tip: Go to The Swan Hotel down the road instead.

We booked a suite in this hotel as a special treat. And a real treat it was. We had our own little lakeside garden with picture windows from the lounge. a huge comfy bed and a very spacious bathroom with Gilchrist and Soames toiletries. The staff were without exception helpful and friendly. I was in a wheelchair and they ensured I had a table in the dining room with easy access and comfortable leg room. The food was excellent. My husband commented on the cumberland sausage breakfast as the best he'd had. We had a cream tea in the conservatory and the scones were to die for. Warm, light and fluffy. This is not an inexpensive hotel but you most certainly get what you pay for.

Just back from a wonderful weekend at Lakeside. Everything is always perfect from the welcome at the door when you arrive to the moment of leaving.
Although the Hotel was busy with functions, that is Weddings in the new Function Suite, and Birthdays it in no way detracted from the excellent service and first class food that we enjoyed in both Ruskins Brasserie and The Lakeview Restaurant.
The rooms are always spotlessly clean and the beds take you to another level of sleep, non of the usual run of the mill hotel beds here, they are just perfection.
Thankyou once again to everybody for helping us to have another wonderful weekend at the Lakeside Hotel
