“A relaxing stay with great service in beautiful surroundings.”
Reviewed 2 June 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for 3 days over the May half term holidays with our 18 month old son. The food and service here are fantastic along with the facilities. There are only 3 things I would have improved which are pretty low key 1) the decor within our room could do with some modernisation (could be down to the Mrs' taste) 2) despite turning the heating off and opening the window it was very warm 3) there is no mobile signal however there is free wifi. This wifi has to be the slowest I have ever encountered apart from when I used at 3am. This is great if you don't want anyone to get hold of you.

The food is top notch and all of the staff worked hard to keep you happy, they were also attentive towards my son. One of the 1st hotels we have stayed in that provide a proper cot which is a real positive.

We will be looking to stay here again in the future and would recommend this to others.

We decided to go over to Lake Windermere for a short break whilst my wife was recovering from recent major heart surgery. We selected the Lakeside Hotel as it is located right next to lake Windermere and the steamer terminal. In addition the area around the hotel is relatively flat and easy for my wife to take short walks without straining herself.

When we arrived and drove up to the hotel reception we were given a very warm welcome even before we had got out of the car. The concierge took our baggage and our car was parked for us. We arrived early but our room was still ready. The concierge gave us a great tour around the hotel to show us all the facilities. It was really great. Our room, which was on the third floor overlooked lake Windermere and the view was absolutely fabulous. The room had been newly decorated and was really well appointed and very comfortable. The decoration was really lovely and the room was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was first class with a very good selection of quality toiletries. The bed was extremely comfortable with lovely soft pillows.

We had afternoon tea on the lawn in front of the hotel overlooking the lake and the weather was glorious! The afternoon tea was excellent, with silver tea pots and china cups and saucers.

For the two nights we stayed, we had two wonderful dinners in the Lakeview restaurant and the food and service was five star. We had coffee and port in the conservatory after dinner, overlooking the lake and it was fabulous. The service in the conservatory was first class and the staff kept asking us if we had everything we needed.

We visited the indoor pool and spa on two occasions and it was absolutely fantastic. The hotel doesn't have membership for non residents, so it is much better.

We spent one of the days steaming up and down lake Windermere between Lakeside, Bowness and Ambleside and we had a fantastic day. The Lakeside hotel is ideally located for this. There is also a steam train ride that you can take to Haverthwaite Station, along with an aquarium near to the station at Lakeside, so there are lots of things to do, along with having some lovely walks close by.

We had a wonderful stay at the Lakeside hotel and Spa and will definitely be going back there at some point in the very near future. It was worth every penny!

Room Tip: Book a Lake view room. It is spectacular!

Fantastic hotel in the perfect setting. Great staff and service and the food was WOW! The spa treatments we had could not be faulted (Samantha, you rock!). If only the beds were not so soft that we found it difficult to sleep, it even gave me back-ache after 3 nights. We had an Executive suite with twin beds - room 75. Great view of the lake and good sized sitting area with armchair & double sofa. The room was quiet at night - no noisy neighbours - just the sound of the lake. Two good restaurants and bars for a quiet drink or try the conservatory for a view of the lake. All in all we rate this hotel (we rarely get decent beds when going away).

Room Tip: top floor the quietest but try the rooms that open out onto the lawn for the best view (think these...

With a stunning location, a beautiful old building that's a very well-done assembly of what was once a hotel and two separate homes, two restaurants, a pool/spa on site and customer service that's friendly and efficient, this is the only place I would choose to stay in the area.

It doesn't come cheap but it's London quality 5-star service and rooms right on the shores of Lake Windermere, so great value in my books.

Room Tip: There are only a handful of standard rooms in the place so it's worth trying to get an upgrade t...

This place is one of those lovely old fashioned hotels in the most incredible location right by Lake Windermere. The service in the dining room is a little on the slow side perhaps, but that's the only fault I can find (and to be honest, if you have driven all the way along the winding Lakeland roads to get here, you're not in a hurry). The food is anything but old fashioned though. It is very fine indeed. Ingredients and attention to detail is impeccable but it's unfussy and quite excellent. I was much more impressed than I expected to be. The latest addition to the menu was a wild strawberry "cannelloni" with lime meringues. Remarkable. And for half the price you'd expect given the opulence of the dining room and level of attention you get.

Being local to this hotel I was amazed at the prices being charged when I attended a function. Having ordered a small white wine and a single gin and tonic the barman asked for £13.65. When I asked him how much the small wine was he did not want to tell me in front of other astonished customers, on pressing him he produced a till receipt showing the small wine was £7.75 and the gin and tonic £5.90. He also stated that the prices went up at 5.00 but had no reason why. In the local area in good establishments a G & T is £3.20 and a small wine around 3.50. This is a tourist destination and I and the others agreed this is the sort of profiteering that drives down the reputation of the Lake-district. Another customer asked to speak to the manager about why the prices had risen at 5.00 but he would not come to the bar. The Lakes are a wonderful destination and you expect a premium for their position but this type of pricing reminds me of the bars in Rome where only the unwary sit down.
