The hotel failed to provide us with the accommodation we had asked for, this despite our having booked several weeks in advance, and reconfirmed prior to arrival, both times specifying our exact requirements. A straightforward request, one would have thought. But no, we were assigned the wrong room and then kept waiting in the wrong room while the member of staff disappeared to try and correct the mistake. We were then advised by 'phone that the 'wrong' room would be reconfigured to the 'right' room. Cue, eventually, the arrival of the maid to push and pull the furniture, strip the bed and dump the excess linen in the corner. The result? Two exhaused, frustrated guests left with a hotchpotch of a room that looked far worse than when we had walked in half an hour previously. No apology, no offer of alternative accommodation, no invitation to wait in the lounge while the room was prepared. No initiative in the minds of the hotel staff! I ventured to discuss the matter later with front desk and was met with incomprehension, and worse, indifference. Our expectations were well and truly dashed and we were glad to get away. But the bill made us wince. The charges are comparable to London. Unfortunately the service is not.

We stayed at the lakeside on a 3 night special deal in May. Although we cannot fault the hotel, we have just returned to Windermere for a birthday break and found a hotel in Bowness for 1/3 of the price and just as good. The food and drinks are way overpriced and the choice is limited. We were offered the same menu in the lakeview restaurant as we had been offered the previous evening in the brasserie.
Shop around, you will find better deals.

We stayed at this hotel for a few days in August. We had a great room at the front of the hotel with a fabulous view of the lake and it was perfect for our family of two adults two kids as it had a separate lounge area with a separate TV for the kids. The bathroom was a bit small with a weak shower and a jacuzzi bath which I hate with a passion but it did the job. The pool area was good and it was great for the kids to be able to use it when they wanted to, unlike other hotels where there are restricted times for the kids. The only criticism I have of the hotel is that they have got the restaurants wrong. Instead of having two very smart and very expensive restaurants they should keep the brasserie which is till pretty formal at night, move it to the fron of the hotel where the Lakeview restaurant is based and introduce a more relaxed/informal restaurant instead of the very formal lakeview which is often empty. The hotel is losing business as all the families are going down the road to the Swan for dinner where the food is less expensive and more family friendly. There were three other families from the Lakeside there on the night we went!Still prefer the Lakeside overall though and would definitley stay there again over the Swan. Overall a very relaxing stay in a lovley hotel with very friendly, helpful staff.

Stunning uninteruppted views across Lake Windermere combined with superb food and service. I took my elderly mother for a three night break and we enjoyed excellent service from the ample staff, the breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of choice of hot and cold dishes. Our twin room was on the small size, but the fittings (new contemporary bathroom and bone china teacups) were all you would expect of a 5 star hotel. There is a bright conservatory overlooking the lake, where you can relax and read a paper, with table service which is always there just when you need it, just remember to read the menu before you order as the prices are, let's say, 'Harrods'. I think the hotel could probably reduce these and get more business and profit as a result. If you are a smoker, be aware that the hotel does not have ashtrays, so I would pack your little tin. The pool and spa are excellent, steam room, pool and gym are included but spa treatments are extra.

You could not wish for a more pleasant place to stay. Staff are exceptional in all areas. Ambience and views perfect. Atmosphere quiet and relaxing although we stayed at quite a busy time. Restaurants excellent although choice a bit limited. Not cheap, but definitely worth the rate.

My 15 year old daughter and I sought refuge from the appalling weather and in need of pampering from a very wet and arduous walk. We were booked in to a room in a pub but last minute decided we needed more comfort. The Lakeside offered a great last minute deal and we arrived to what turned out to be a haven! We had a deluxe room that was delightful (although we were told it had a lake view but only if prepared to acquire a crick in the neck!) . Fabulous bathroom with stunning colour light changes that wooed my daughter. Pleasant staff. Wonderful pool and spa area; a real treat. My only complaint would be that the restaurant and the ‘bar’ food was far too expensive. Bar meals start at £16 for two courses. Restaurant starts at £31 per head. No wonder it was empty! We de-camped to The Swan and had delicious home cooked pizza for much less. However our breakfast was a grand affair and included in the price. Excellent location with the ferry terminal and a steam train and stunning view all on your doorstep.
