“Luxury in the Lake District”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2012

A high quality hotel at the top end of 4* with fresh clean modern facilities and a wonderful leisure centre/spa. The nouvelle cuisine was perfect and we had a good deal for our group of 18 which provided bed/breakfast & evening meal for £55 per night all in.

The only complaint would be lack of staff on the bar and slow service at breakfast

Room Tip: Ask for a riverside room as the sound of the water will block out trafficsounds

Many thanks for posting a mostly positive review and we have taken on board your commets regarding staff cover. It was particularly plaesing to read that your whole group enjoyed their stay and felt value for money was received so when you are next in the area we hope that you stay with us again.

I would have to say hotel delivers on all levels. Thomas on reception, Richard the GM, Chris on the bar and breakfast, the room fantastic. I have stayed at The Lakeside and as expensive as the hotel is it doesnt hit the buttons....if you think I can't comment I spent 13k on a wedding there. The Whitewater is truly fantastic loved it and will go back again and again. The food is brilliant...If you get a chance to stay here grab it.... Go for a river view room-treat your lady.

Room Tip: Groupon probably doesn't mean riverside room so upgrade worth it

We took advantage of a Groupon offer and enjoyed a two night stay for two with bed and breakfast and one night's dinner at an amazingly low price (£164). On arrival the staff at reception were so friendly and nothing was a trouble to them. Our ground floor room was pleasant with a king size bed and smart new bathroom. There was plenty of space. Before dinner, I visited the gym which was well equipped and cool air con. I didn't make use of the pool or aromatherapy rooms but they looked great. The evening meal was one of the best I have ever had. It was obvious that the french chef really takes pride in his menu and presentation. We had a beautiful pan fried tuna starter with terriyaki sauce rice and salad then fillet steak which was absolutely the best.

Not really needing breakfast the next morning, we still joined in and it was really good for wide choice. The restaurant is open to the public and with food this good on offer its not difficult to see why it was fully booked on our second night and we ate disappointingly elsewhere.

The venue is just south of the bottom of Lake Windermere. We tried a circular walk before dinner but unfortunately ended up on a very busy dual carriageway with no footpath to be seen. You need to be able to drive about 9 miles into Bowness and perhaps take the Windermere ferry to Ambleside to pick up walks or just do the coffee shop tour! With Grasmere also nearby, there's plenty around.

We would definitely return.

We were very pleased to see how much you enjoyed your break here, especially the food and the facilities, hopefully you can return to try out the Spa. We do get a lot of comments about being away from all the hustle & bustle of the area, but that it is only a short distance away if you want to visit the attractions, yet when guests return after a day out we can offer a little peace.

Last time we visited we were upgraded to the most fabulous room, this time we were in the annex. The room was comfortable and very clean but not as light or large as last time but we had no complaints. I was ill and needed to stay in bed for one of the days and asked the housekeeping staff to ignore me (and my room) which they did without fuss or mistakes.

We took four breakfasts at the hotel and both were first-class. Our three course dinner was again of an excellent high standard. It seemed that the kitchen staff had taken high quality ingredients and prepared them excellently without unneeded flourishes, the food spoke for itself. The staff in the dining room and bars had a lightness of touch, a professionalism which is not always found -- the line between being too familiar or too stiff must be difficult to hold. The Whitewater hotel are skilled at getting, training and keeping good staff I suspect.

We spent Sunday morning at Prayers for World Peace at the nearby Buddhist Temple followed by an amble around the lovely grounds.

We came away from this weekend at the lakes well fed, well rested and contented.

Thank you for your very kind review, we were sorry to hear that you were ill but glad to see you were not disturbed, your comments about the ability of the team to be around at just the right time are quite reassuring as you point out there is a fine line. We are also pleased that you were able to enjoy some of the local attractions in order to make your break complete so we hope you get the chance to return soon.

We've just returned from a 2 night stay at this excellent hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and warm with a huge bathroom. Restaurant service was impeccable and the food delicious. The outside terrace will be perfect to enjoy a drink in the summer and we look forward to returning.

We stayed in one of the timeshare units. The cottage was superbly fitted out and wanted for nothing. Everything was spotlessly clean and every comfort had been thought of. The hotel was also excellent. We only had a sandwich in the Dolly Blue Bar but that was excellent. We did not use the hotel restaurant as we were self-catering. We definitely recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed in cottage no. 28 which was a great location - close enough to all the amenities but not t...

We work very closely with The Lakeland Village who look after the self catering facility so we were pleased to see you enjoyed both aspects during your stay and we have passed your kind comments on to the team there.
