5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2014 via mobile

We stayed overnight before launching the cruiser on the lake for the season. On arrival I was asked if I needed help with my luggage and given good information about the facilities. We made good use of the fantastic gym, swimming pool, steam room, whirlpool and squash courts. Had a top quality meal at the bar, all the staff we were greeted by were excellent albeit friendly and easy going. The room we had was the family room which had plenty of space, was exceptionally clean and tidy, shower was amazing. We have stayed in various hotels around the area and this was by far the best one for me, personally. The only improvement would be wifi strength. Would recommend.

Booked just a night for a relax. Rang the hotel for ideas on packages as the website wasn't clear. We were offered an executive room with a reduction Very disappointed the balconies are wasted, no chairs and feel very council building! Room ok. Leisure club and spa treatments fantastic . We ate in the restaurant and it was good BUT £25 for the beef is really expensive, we can eat at Michelin starred restaurants for the same price . We had a lovely relax but for £350 for a night , dinner and an hour of treatments just not good enough

It is a hotel / B&B.
The Internet and phone reception was extremely poor any where in the building. Which makes it extra hard work if you are on the road for business.
the beds where good. Have a massive health club in the next build was a huge plus. latest equipment and plenty of room for the free and machine weights.
I had been told the food is below par, the breakfasts were full and hearty. the dinner in the bar / restaurant was good.
The laundry service was very good too
Would be good for couples or families having a escape.

We stayed for 1 night after a walk round coniston on a bed and breakfast basis on a late rooms deal. Room was lovely, though we did have a view of a roof. The food was amazing, bit pricey but very nice. Will stay here again.

We booked a "just the 2 of us" package.
Greeted by a lovely friendly receptionist on arrival, who was also working in the bar later.
Spacious spotless room, robes, slippers and toiletries waiting on the bed. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
The evening meal (lamb) was superb. The wine was good and not overpriced. Drinks in the bar reasonably priced too.
Buffet breakfast was of a high quality with plenty of options.
The pool and spa was practically deserted. We had upgraded our massage to a full body one. The Turkish hamman and rassul were amazing.
We had afternoon tea in the spa area. Sandwiches scones with jam and cream and a selection of cakes. Unlimited tea and coffee.
The 2nd evening we ate in the bar, once again food was great and reasonably priced, as were the drinks.
Could anything have been better?? Maybe a fridge in the room........ And to stay longer!

Tucked away off the beaten track this converted mill is tranquility itself.

Executive rooms overlook the fast moving, bubbling river and come with a balcony, rooms are spacious, well decorated with a large bed and comes with a large bathroom complete with its own Jacuzzi bath. Hard to find fault, a couple of bits of constructive criticism for the management I didn't see or find a suitcase rack in the room? (306) and with such luxury including bathrobes would be a plus.
The biggest disappointment was not being able to secure a table in the restaurant on our Saturday night stay. I booked our two over a week prior to our arrival having not stayed before had I realised the restaurant would be so busy I'd have probably booked ahead given the restaurant menu screamed quality from its pages. Thankfully the bar on the lower ground floor and the exceptional I'll call her our hostess for the night Carly, (for she was more than just the barmaid) delivered exceptional customer service and we opted to dine from the bar's restaurant, although a lot more 'simpler' than the haute cuisine in the restaurant on the ground floor the quality of the food and the cooking and presentation was exceptional. We dined on Fell Steak, it truly melted in our mouths.

All in all a great stay and when time permits we will return, I do recommend you stay if you enjoy the Lake District and the tranquility it brings.

Room Tip: Executive rooms overlook the river giving you amazing views, I'm sure some standard rooms do too...

The Hotel itself seemed very nice. Our room was clean and a good size with plenty of space. The Gym and pool were bigger than id expected and of a good standard. We did not use the spa, though from what we saw it seemed a pleasant relaxing area. The staff that we came across all seemed talkative and friendly.

And now for the bad points. 3 things in the bathroom were faulty. The heated towel rail seemed to have a mind of its own. Regardless of turning it on or off with the switch at the wall it was on constantly, which seemed quite dangerous to me, especially if you were going out for the day. The only way to cool it down was to adjust the valve taps on the actual rail (which I know how to do, but others wouldn't).
The under floor heating did not seem to make the bathroom floor warm at all.
And, the audio from TV did not play from the speaker in the bathroom. The reason for this was obvious. There were no audio cables going from the TV to the wall connection. Either, they were taken by previous guests or have never been there. Anyway, this was something you would expect would be checked before getting a room ready for new guests. I complained about all 3 of these problems. To be fair, when we got back from our day out, the hotel had fitted the audio cables so the TV audio did then work in the bathroom. Unfortunately the other 2 problems were not fixed! I appreciate the under floor heating would have been a big job and taken time. But the heated towel rail, someone had fiddled with the valve taps, but the switch on the wall still had no affect on whether it was on or off.
Other minor gripes. The TV in the gym did not work. I spoke to a local who had used the gym for a year, and he said it had been broken for months.
The attachment for the end of hairdryer in our room was faulty and just kept falling off.
After having a day out, when getting back to the hotel my partner fancied a nice relaxing bubble bath and asked at reception if we could have one of the small complimentary bubble bath bottles sent to our room, as it didn't have any. Half an hour later no one had brought any. So she has to call up reception again, and 10 minutes later a member of staff brought some.
I can't comment on the restaurant, as I did not eat in it. I looked at the menu one night, but there was nothing on there that a liked. I’m am not a fussy eater, its just there wasn't much choice. So we ate in the Swan hotel 5mins down the road, as I have stayed there before and know they have more options, and very nice food. I was reliably informed by one of the members of staff that the restaurant food is very nice, so perhaps if id have stayed longer I would have tried one of their options.
The final negative is from breakfast time. The first morning there was no one to greet us at the entrance, and we just had to find a table and sit there ourselves. It then took 20minutes for someone to offer us tea/coffee and toast. This improved the next morning where there was someone to greet you at the door, however it still took a long time, again, for someone to come and ask if we would like tea/coffee, where as other people were getting asked right away, which didn't really seem fair. The staff were friendly and polite though when they did come and ask.

So all in all, nothing major, just these minor things, but when you add them up it all puts a little dampener on your stay. I would recommend the hotel to a friend, if they could guarantee all these little things wouldn't occur. Only then would I say that it is worth the price you pay.
