Just got back from a four night break at the lovely yurt company and can I just say both my partner and I have totally enjoyed everything about it. From the sheer rustic feel of the place, to the open air shower has been excellent experience. We were in the 18 foot yurt, and from opening that door for the first time was a complete magical. The worst bit about this break was actually going back home!!! From the open fire at night, and lighting the fire in the yurt to keep it warm was great. Part took me back to childhood holidays when electricity wasn't in such demand with ya gizmos etc. just need to try it in the autumn now. Thanks to Daryll for our brill holiday

We are a family of 4, me and 3 teenagers so I had my concerns about all being in a yurt for 3 days, need not have worried. Peaceful, warm and dry and a great base for activities around the area. My type of camping, turn up, light a fire and put the kettle on.

We stayed here for 2 nights as we wanted somewhere to stay for a few nights after or wedding before we got thrust back into the 9 - 5 rat race.

Firstly, we had trouble finding the place as there is absolutely no signage that would suggest that there are yurts anywhere. We eventually found it beyond the wood yard, and drove up the steep descent to our yurt.

Barry in the wood yard sells coal and wood to keep your wood burner going, though there is a scuttle ready for you on arrival. It costs about £6 a bag of coal and lasts for ages, it seems to burn forever so it's well worth it.

Nothing will prepare you for the joy when you open the door for the first time, it's like being transported into Frodo's house. There was a cast iron log burner, quirky table and chairs, a cute double bed, cooking facilities, and a little shelf that stored plates, cups and cooking utensils.

We were afraid that being February and with the terrible weather that the UK has suffered recently that we would be cold. Let me assure you that once that log burner has got going a yurt can hold the heat! We had a comfortable first night and the only thing we heard was the distant hooting of owls. We awoke to the sound of chattering birds the next morning, it was beautiful.

The shower facilities are just brilliant. It's an out door shower, with a lockable door, but you are able to see out the other side into the forest. The shower is lit by a gas boiler and it was easy to use. It was one of the most beautiful showering experiences I have ever had.

On our final night we lit a camp fire out in the fire pit and sat under the stars, over looking the lake view cooking marshmallows and sausages over the fire. We sat there chatting and enjoying the fire for ages. This place certainly provided us with memories we will indeed treasure forever.

I honestly felt like a new woman by the time I had left the yurt, and my husband really enjoyed discovering his inner cave man. It was truly a unique, memorable experience (despite the weather) and we just can't wait to get back, hopefully for our first anniversary.

we arrive for a mid week break, we stayed in the 22 foot yurt, when we entered the yurt there was a slight odour which smelt like an antique shop which to some people could be off putting but when you look inside you notice its furnished with old furniture which is in good order ( except a nice large thick leather chest which had been repaired by hand ) the furniture suits the yurt making it all very rustic, the owner had lit the stove and the yurt was nice and warm when we went in. there is only 3 yurts here well spaced out . the shower some people would have shyed away from, it being like a wooden sentry box, but once used it was,nt as bad as it looked, hot water, clean and spacious. toilets were a bit of a trek and the path that led there was,nt lit at night, they were nice and clean with hot and cold running water, lovely view from the yurt to the lake. the yurt itself was spacious and warm, the bed was comfortable, there was a 2 ring stove which was ample, it had everything you need, wood / coal could be bought at a reasonable price from the woodyard which is the entrance to the yurt site and the chaps at the woodyard were helpful if you needed to know anything about the area, we had a fire in the fire pit outside the yurt which was nice looking up at the stars with a large glass of jim beam in my hand. if you are a camper then you,ll be well suited , if you are a moaner then don't bother its a real eco warrior experience, we love it ,downside its in the middle of nowhere ( about 8 miles to bowness and shops ) so if you go take all your supplies ie food and drink and drink and more drink and chill out in tranquillity. would we go again? this is an hard one, course we would.

We stayed 3 nights between Christmas and New Year with the Lovely Yurt Company. We had the 22 foot yurt and there were 3 of us; me, my husband and our 13 year old son. It was our fist time in a yurt and we don't do the camping thing so we had open minds.

The stove was already lit when we arrived and we managed to keep it in for the whole of our stay and we were never cold. On the last night it chucked it down in buckets and you could hardly hear yourself speak but not one spot of rain penetrated inside. Pretty good, I think.

You access the site through a woodyard and the owner sells smokeless coal. Buy it from him because its cheaper and hotter than that from other places.

The woodland setting is glorious. The smell is lovely. You don't notice it until you get home and it's not there any more.

The yurt was adequately furnished with a double bed and two futons. There were airbeds too if there were more of you but I think it would have been pretty cramped. The double bed was a bit uncomfy. The mattress was thin and it felt like sleeping on the apex of a roof because of the central bar running top to bottom but to be honest all it needs is a new mattress and problem solved. The cooking facilities were fine, double gas burner as you would expect and a quaint dresser for pots & pans etc. A couple of chests housed more pillows & quilts and all the bedding was beautifully fresh and clean.

A clever earthenware pot served as storage and 'fridge' although there was a fridge outside housed in a little wooden cupboard. Solar panels may have afforded light in summer but a 12 volt battery cunningly hidden powered a small central light. There were tea lights dotted around but I was very glad my son had the sense to bring head torches and other portable lights to help us with the dark hours - 4pm to 8am - as we are in the depths of winter. The table was low and circular and had low stools aroung which gave for an authentic feel.

I never want another game of Monopoly ever but we had lots of proper family fun with no ipad, no tv and no internet. Bliss.

The shower tucked away in its own little house was really delightful. The water is hot thanks to a gas heater and while it's not a power shower, it's really fine. The views from the shower are just glorious and you feel snug and safe, not exposed at all.

The toilets and pot wash facilities are quite a walk from the yurt, through the wood and you definitely need your torch in the dark but all is clean and tended to and whilst fairly basic is more than adequate. I didn't much like the trek to the loo in the dark but it goes with the territory so you have to be realistic about stuff like that.

Apart from Barry the woodyard owner, I only saw one other person throughout our stay and the three yurts are well set apart in their own little areas.

We had a lovely stay and would certainly go back without hesitation. Book with confidence, the website is comprehensive and the owner is very good with communication and information.
