“A very enjoyable weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2013

A large group of ramblers stayed for the weekend and I have to say it was fantastic. The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and the hotel was very clean and warm to the point of being a little on the tropical side. Food was very good and all in all I couldn't fault the whole weekend. Value for money is outstanding and I can't wait to go back again. I really don't know how they do it for the amount they charge. Just wonderful.

We have just stayed at the Patterdale Hotel again. If you like walking and good food with pleasant people and a cosy atmosphere then this is the place for you. The weather was very kind to us and we got in lots of walking. The welcome on arrival was lovely. A warm welcome with tea/coffee and warm mince pies. The food there is absolutely fabulous and plenty of choice. Do not try and diet while you are there - you have no chance the food is too tempting. Even the packed luches pack a punch. We will definitely be going back again. Been twice now and my daughter and granddaughter have been also at our recommendation. My gandadughter spent time swimming in Ullswater as sadly the hotel does not have a swimming pool.Well worth a visit time and again. If you can't stay at the hotel - try going in for the evening meal if they have room - it s great. They also do cake of the day with a cuppa - tempting or what. We'll be back soon. Well done.

Room Tip: Choose one on the top floor so that so-one is walking above you when you are trying to sleep.

Stayed here last weekend for the third time, and similar to our first two ventures, everything was spot on! I don't know where to begin regarding praising The Patterdale, the breakfasts, the evening meals, the room,ALL were great! I cannot recall ever staying in an establishment with such polite, helpful, and obliging members of staff, nothing was too much of an effort for them, each and every one was superb!

Having read a few other comments, the negative ones especially, all I can assume is that you've either been very unlucky,or you're expecting Moet+Chandon vintage champagne for Fosters lager money. For ourselves, whilst The Patterdale's official accreditation is 2* ,I can honestly remark that I've stayed in several 4* places over the years, which wouldn't come even close to the standards that this place offers.

Thanks to all of the employees of this hotel once again!!

Our first stay here. Very welcoming, excellent staff, warm and very clean. Had lunch on arrival, the curry was tasty and the salmon cooked to perfection. Just about the right price too. Room was very clean and smelt very fresh and everything worked. Great views too. Stayed for two nights and the evening meals were wonderfully cooked and very tasty. Three course meal included, absolutely no rush to eat up. First class service, waters/waitresses really looked after us. Massive walk up Fairfield on the Saturday and they even provided a packed lunch and drink for a very reasonable £5 each. Breakfast was scrumptious too, effectively it is an all you can eat buffet! Entertainment was okay, a good male solo singer doing mainly Elvis. Not quite to our taste but understand why others really liked it. WiFi provided but only in main bar and signal was 'choppy'. Manager advised a new WiFi system was going to be installed in the near future. Fantastic location for walking and getting out and about. Glenridding only a short walk away. Car parking was a bit cramped: thank you to the white Honda Civic that dented my car door! Will definitely revisit.

Room Tip: Front rooms have great views over toward Ullswater.

When selecting a place to stay in the Lake District think first what is the reason I am going there. If you are there for a spa, swimming and gym weekend and an all day relax then perhaps the Patterdale Hotel isn't for you. But if you are in the Lakes to enjoy the lakes and the surrounding mountains, walking etc with the knowledge that you are coming back to friendly welcoming staff, a great evening meal, nice relaxing atmosphere, comfortable rooms and beds, nice bar area and lounges to chill out and relax after a longs days walking and getting up to a great breakfast, then the Patterdale Hotel is just the place for you. The hotel is very popular and you can see why when you stay there.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front have great lake views and mountain views

Have just returned from a 3 day break at this Hotel. Reception desk very helpful, asking times for our E Meal etc etc. The Evening meals are from a choice of 4 Starters, 4 Main courses, and 4 Sweets. They were all well served, and ample portions. We had NO rush to eat our meals, even asked could we wait too order our sweet on 1 occasion, know problems. The Bedroom,s are having Redecorations done, our,s (105) had recently been done in very pleasing colour & wallpaper. Yes it looked onto the rear of the Hotel car park, but it was quiet. The Hotel was busy, but when they put offers on, then this not surprising. Would certainly go back again. Many thanks too all the STAFF, who are always very obliging.

Room Tip: As previously mentioned, the rooms are being Decorated. Rooms at the rear are quieter. Rooms 109-105...

My husband and I are just back from a last minute booking to this hotel. On our arrival we couldn't find a parking space so I ran in to find out what to do. I was given a slip to put in the car and told to park in their own pay and display car park across the road. The receptionist was nice and friendly and we got checked in and told there was free coffee and mince pies if we wanted any. I think this was to do with "Tinsel & Turkey Breaks" It was a nice touch anyway and after a short walk we went for some.
Our room 117 was right at the top of the first flight of stairs and looked like it had been recently decorated. There were two rooms next to it being done which was a bit noisy but the workers were finished just after 5pm and started again about 9am, The main noise in this room were people going up the stairs and strange noises from a water tank or something similar. I don't know if the tops of the stairs went across the ceiling of our bedroom but it was really noisy with people walking and obviously chatting too. We could not hear our TV at times. Luckily no-one was going about late and not too early in the morning or we wouldn't have had any sleep.
Dinner was fine and the staff very attentive. The bar was a decent price and the barman very helpful and friendly. The cooked breakfast was nice although the scrambled egg which I usually have when away looked so horrible I had a fried egg instead. The selection of fruit was a disappointment as it was al tinned. The views from the dining room and I expect from a lot of bedrooms was spectacular. Our bedroom did not have a pleasant view - extractor fan and back of kitchens I think.
On the plus side the views and the nearby walks made up for most of the hotels faults. You can find walks all around you without needing to drive to them. You can walk to Glenridding which is about a mile away and go on a cruise of Ullswater - recommended for the beautiful scenery. Wrap up well though as it is cold in the middle of the lake at this time of year.
Enjoyed our break but would not pay over the odds for it.
