“GREAT HOLIDAY MEMORIES”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

My wife and I spent a memorable week at the Patterdale Hotel from the 27th June - the 4th of July. We could not fault our stay. The staff were excellent, welcoming, friendly, in fact they could not do enough for you. Our bedroom which overlooked the stunning vista of the Lakeland fells was comfortable, as was our bed. The food was fantastic, with plenty of it, both at breakfast and dinner. The bar was well stocked, with a couple of good real ales on show. We met some lovely people and enjoyed sunny days in the lovely beer garden. We will be returning next year. Patterdale is a lovely village and the locals are friendly. A great summer break, with fantastic memories. 10/10.

Room Tip: Choose a Lakeland room.

My friend and I stayed in what was sold as a superior room, unfortunately I felt let down as the room was very ordinary, when queried about the room I was advised it was called superior because of the view, our room was a t the front and faced the view of Place fell, if they marketed the room as rooms with a view this would not raise expectations, as I am afraid we expected a more luxurious abode. Saying that the room was clean and functional, the single beds were small, being tall my feet dangled out the bottom, but they were comfortable!. Only other grumble were the size of the towels they were no bigger than a postage stamp, well I am sure you get the picture. Small touches like large fluffy towels would have been good. Food was good, and considering 3 course evening meal, and breakfast was included in the cost it was value for money. Just not superior.

Room Tip: If you are tall go for double room! Ask for room with view at front, back of hotel restricted view...

Back today from 5 sunny days at the patterdale. We have stayed there many times and always been happy - but this week exceeded previous experiences. Everyone was friendly and helpful, the new décor very smart, and the choice of food even better than before. Apricots soaked in Schnapps with chewy meringue, almonds cream and icecream ...what's not to like!
We have recommended the Patterdale to so many people ... all of them have been impressed by the quality and value ...well done to all (and thanks for the bottle of wine for winning the quiz!!)

Room Tip: Always go for a Lakeland room if possible

Had another enjoyable stay at the Patterdale Hotel. Since our last stay the Hotel has obviously introduced a number of cost cutting measures but there has been no compromise to quality of service or excellent menu.
There does appear to be a problem with the plumbing which did result in no water when we were trying to get ready for dinner on the Saturday evening. A quick call to reception soon sorted the problem and we received a complimentary bottle of wine for the inconvenience.
However this problem does need sorting out as my wife was almost scalded the next morning when the shower cut out and then came on again with extremely hot water. Could have had serious consequences for a child!!

DBB rate from LateRooms was very good value. Front bedroom was clean and pleasant; good view but for car park! No chair, but window seat & stool. Mirror too high on wall when seated at dressing area. Bathroom fine, v hot water, shower excellent, but for an hotel with very high % of elderly guests, strange that there was nothing to hang onto getting in and out of bath under shower. Tranquil hotel except for disco type entertainment some nights up to 11pm. Internet in public rooms. Service exceptionally good. Food varied. Dinner 3 choices, 3 courses + coffee, also some a la carte. First night main was awful: v overcooked veg. & liquid looking meat pie but to be fair other people seemed well satisfied. Other evenings better. I advise you to book to eat early in the evening: I think late food was spoilt. Excellent choice for buffet breakfast + extra dishes such as kippers, boiled eggs to order. I found the warnings about norovirus, coupled with hand cleaning dispensers mounted here and there in the corridors,, rather off-putting.

Room Tip: The value was excellent at the rate I got on Laterooms, but the hotel's website rates are very m...

My wife and myself spent a very pleasant weekend break here,to do a bit of lake district touring.
The hotel is ideally situated just south of Ullswater and a couple of miles from the bottom of the Kirkstone pass.If you are a walker it is a great place to stay.
We did not bother with the lake view front rooms (hard to see Ullswater in the summer, due to the trees)
Although the room we had at the back had no view.In hindsight we should of booked a front view room,a much better aspect. The room we had was fine for a two night stay though.
We stayed on bbem basis, and the meals were excellent, buffet breakfast, eat as much as you like.Evening meal was superb, with 3/4 choices for each course.
The lawn in front of the hotel is a great place to unwind with a drink after a day out,or a warm evening.
Saturday night had a singer entertaining the guests.
Would throughly reccommend the hotel to anyone,as well the staff were very friendly and helpful. This was our third visit

Room Tip: £10 extra but worth it for the view from front rooms

Stayed at the Patterdale Hotel with our cousins from Carlisle on 20th June. The main purpose of our weekend was visiting places where our family used to farm many years ago.We had a fantastic time. The staff at the hotel were extremely pleasant and helpful, rooms were spotless and the food was delicious and plentiful. Lounges were well laid out and inviting for anyone wanting a quiet drink or to chat to friends. All in all the Patterdale is an excellent place to stay and the surrounding countryside is an added beautiful bonus. Well done Patterdale Hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have amazing views of the fells.
