“Penny Menu is such good value for money!”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

We have visited this restaurant quite a dew times over the year, but twice in the past six months since they introduced their penny menu. A range of tasty and well priced main courses accompanied by a good dish of vegetables, can be preceded with a starter for just 1p and followed by a dessert, also for just 1p. Everything is well cooked, nicely presented and served by friendly and helpful staff. We shall go again!

“Average Sunday Lunch.”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Visited for Sunday lunch. Staff were very nice and helpful . We decided to try the curried celery soup which was ok but very " thin" and the bread was of the very pale, frozen variety. This would have been more acceptable if warmed up. Two roast beef lunches were served . The beef was rare which suited me but not my husband and we asked for extra hot gravy. We were given two small roast, one small boiled potato and a small portion of mash. Veg again was a small serving. Yorkshire pudding had been cooked a long ago. The chocolate sundae was very nice. My husband said the beer was very well kept. So all in all a very mixed experience but should have been much better with a little more care and attention.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 30 May 2014 via mobile

Visited this pub a few years ago and enjoyed good food and a cosy atmosphere. Called in today on the way home from a day in the Lakes and found quite a change in layout. Less pub and more restaurant, less pub atmosphere....not so olde worlde. I had the fish platter which was OK, but had to ask for lemon and butter then complained that the bread was stale. Had to ask that this was reflected in the bill. The bill was reduced by £3 as a result. Thought the whole experience was pretty mediocre...staff were fine, pleasant and helpful, but wouldn't bother to visit again

You will not be disappointed with the quality and quantity of food here and the price is excellent. The car park is just across the road.

Breakfast is included when one stays at the Wheatsheaf and they do an excellent job of it. Wonderful food to start off the day's adventures!
