Service was excellent, food excellent, kids options excellent, both boys were pleased with meals, and that is difficult to accomplish.

We arrived late in the evening on what was a busy evening after a beautiful day in the lakes. We had not booked a table but we were not turned away and a lovely table for two was prepared for us. The food was excellent and really good value. Thank you for making us so welcome.

This is a lovely old hotel, in a picturesque village, and easy to get to (just off the A6 and near the M6). There is a big carr park opposite, but many walkers come here, Lunchtimes are popular, as well as sandwiches and hot bites they do a fair selection of pub grub and ales. They are a bit overpriced, but you are paying for the surroundings, which look like a typical old-style quality inn, lots of space and lovely furniture. As for the food: the steak and ale pie is excellent. The vegetarian option is overpriced and unimaginitive. There are 2 menus, one is straight small plates and the other is the Penny Menu, where you can add a first or last course for just 1p. So they overprice the main dish to cover for that. The puds are really not worth it on the Penny Menu, unless you are hungry. You'd be better off having a cheaper main. For example the peach trifle was basically 2 slices of tinned peaches with a pile of custard, a tiny amount of cream and 2 thin slices of almond, served in a small sundae dish, and the Eton Mess wasn't real either, just a small scoop of berries in a glass, topped with a small amount of crushed meringue and whipped cream, with one small strawberry on top. Our service was very slow, too, we were amongst the first to arrive (1220) yet food arrived after others arriving later had been served, and it took 20 minutes to get a bill. So go for the good atmosphere and spacious tables and quality room, but don't expect fast service or competitive prices.

We had a excellent lunch time meal with friendly service !
The best fish and chips and steak meal we had in the area after eating at some other restaurants
Great range of starters and my soup was excellent evening a very hot day !
The food is freshly cooked and served no over heated fries and vegetables at this place just got home cooking at a reasonable price compared to other overpriced and overrated places in the area !
Have to admit this place is a lucky find with great potential !
