We stayed at the guest house in April 2014, me and 2 mates did a charity coast to coast bike ride and stayed here on the evening we started. We arrived later than planned but was still looked after. They allowed us to leave the van and even when we collected after the ride we was allowed to freshen up and made coffee. Highly recommended as it's very clean. Rooms immaculate. And very welcoming. Thanks again :)

Very high quality guesthouse: Spacious, clean and comfortable room, great breakfast, WiFi working perfectly and the hosts Andrew and Joanne gave invaluable recommendations for hiking in the area. Great value for money as well! Highly recommended.

Croft Hill Guest House is brighter, quieter, and very much cleaner than many hotels. We stayed in Room 4 (ensuite) and even though our special request was a great deal of trouble and for one night only, Joanne and Andrew complied with pleasure. Full, fresh English breakfast cooked on an AGA cooker, fire in the grate, brisk English countryside outside, and sheep and new lambs just yards away. Recommended to fellow Americans.

I stayed here as a single visitor for 3 months between September and December 2013 while working in the area.
The rooms in the guest house were in my opinion, such high quality it was like staying in 5 star accommodation.
Most of my stay was spent in the attic conversion which has an area just inside the door like a small kitchen, with a combination grill / microwave and sink and all dishes and cutlery, it was great to be able to cook my own food.
The room had an enormous double bed which was very comfy and every night I had a great sleep.it also had a well laid out and spacious en suite with a large shower which gave fantastic heat. the room had a nice desk and flat screen tv, and the guest house had free wifi throughout.
The hosts Andrew and Joanne were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble, they made me feel very welcome and also told me of great places to visit as I was there most weekends,
The rooms were mostly cleaned by Vicky and she was also the perfect host and a lovely lady and nice and chatty which again made me fell very welcome.
In front of the guest house in the front garden is the off road private car park which could easily hold six or seven cars.
If I was ever to work in the area again, then this house would be my first choice, Highly recommended.

Ian R

Room Tip: try and choose the attic conversion

As entertainers, we had a little job in Whitehaven, and picked the Croft Hill based on TripAdvisor reviews.
First impressions weren't great, with no signage confirming location, and with three carelessly parked cars taking up enough space for five cars. We had to park carefully just inside the property wall to make sure we blocked no-one.
The entrance porch area was a little disconcerting, and in need of an update (which we later learned was due).
There were no signs of life, and no response to the bell, so we headed back to the car to get the telephone number. Just then, we were spotted by a gentleman enjoying the beautiful sunshine in a nearby garden. (Andrew and Joanne had been delayed and took the trouble to introduce themselves a little later).
He was very helpful, and showed us to our room - Room 2. The advertised sea view wasn't immediately evident, but if you press your forehead to one of the windows and look left, there it is, glistening in the distance. Just don't expect to sit with your feet up, sipping your gin & tonic as you watch the squawking seagulls softly swooping over gently lapping waves. "Sea view" is technically correct, but conveys something of a stretch to semantics.
The room was very clean and spacious, with an extremely comfortable bed. Together with the peaceful location and the copious ventilation offered by two large windows, this made for a great night's sleep.
The size of the en-suite room and its shower was tight. There was nowhere to place your bits, and the shower cubicle was bijou, to say the least. Its water control was hitty-missy, with varying temperature spoiling a decent flow.
Breakfast was generous and very tasty. The home-made marmalade was excellent, and the hosts were very friendly and chatty.

Room Tip: Room 2 is a good 'un. If you like a fridge and sink, go for the slightly smaller attic room.
