YHA Wasdale Hall
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Having stayed at the Buttermere YHA -I thought the view there was pretty amazing....but YHA Wastwater beats that! At breakfast time, we would rotate who got to face the captivating view out of the dining room window! Great way to start the day.
Breakfast was filling and and necessary for a day of walking.
Rooms were clean and warm. Pillows and duvet were fluffy and maybe new? Slept really well.
Showers were clean and warm. Didn't have to queue at all.
Good drying room - plenty of space.
Staff and Geoff were very friendly.
The actual building and grounds were clearly well looked after and quite special.
Thank you for everything.
Georgina, Jemma and Kerry-Ann

Room Tip: Room 1 was a 6 person dorm - quiet.

We could not have enjoyed our stay more! To begin with, the location is absolutely perfect. The building is beautiful and well cared for. The staff are so helpful and lovely; nothing is too much trouble and they always have smiles on their faces. This is hardly surprising, as they get to wake up every day to the most beautiful view in England! They are fab with kids and adults alike and ensure you have a great stay. The food is yum and all home cooked. They even cater well for those on special diets. I'll be going back for sure!

My daughter has just come back from 5 days staying here on a school residential trip and she loved it....so much so, she only got back less than 2 hours ago and wanted me to write this straight away.

Her words are 'The beds were really comfy and I felt at home. The food was delicious with yummy pudding! I highly recommend this place to anyone!'

She's had such a great week, I want to go!!!!

Literally awesome. My friend exclaimed 'this is the best one (YHA room relative to the other two we had stayed in)' as we entered our room. Reception later told us that our room wasn't one of the best (it was still great). Very good sticky toffee pudding, in fact excellent. The staff were really lovely and the lake views were just as nice.

A top top YHA - your own secluded mansion house overlooking Wastwaster. There are great meals, a lovely self-catering area if you're bringing your own, the friendliest staff of any YHA I've been to, a huge drying room, comfy 4 person rooms, and loads of showers. Oh and surrounded by the best walking in the Lakes....

Stunning location on the lake and a lovely old house .Staff were really helpful to us and the kids loved Geoff the dog.
Stayed in the refurbished family rooms which are very good. Some showers also updated.

Only improvement needed would be a drying room.

HI, Many thanks for staying with us recently and also for taking the time to leave a review. We are very proud of our customer service here - I believe this is one of the things that makes YHA great. We are blessed with a great house and location to live and work in which I think shows through to how we take pride with the hostel and the job in hand. Jeff is as always a popular member of the staff here....just throw him a stick or a ball and he'll befriend you. We are very pleased with the refurbished rooms we have and they are certainly a great addition to the hostel, especially the double beds. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't actually find our drying room, certainly a key feature of any YHA hostel but especially in the occasionally rainly Lake District; if you come back to stay here any one of us will happily show you where the drying room is.

We spent a night here and enjoyed it very much. We loved the setting. Our family room had a nice view of the lake. Staff was friendly. Kitchen was well equipped. This was our first hostel experience and it converted us to give a consideration to hostels first when traveling.

Hi, Many thanks for choosing to stay at Wasdale Hall whilst in the Lake District and also for taking the time to leave a review. I take pride in the friendliness of our staff here, it's one of the reasons why YHA is a good place to stay anywhere in the country. The hostel is blessed with it's location, overlooking the lake and also superb views along 'Britain's Favourit View' in possibly one of the most dramatic valleys in the country. We are constantly reviewing the equipment in our self catering kitchen, hopefully making it a home from home for guests staying here; hopefully however next time you come to stay you will sample our home cooked food...!
