I've stayed in many hotels over the years and there are this that seem to blurr into a type of muchness so that it become difficult to identify one from the other. The Pennington is just such a hotel. To rob a building of any local character in such a lovely part of the world seems criminal, and when it is located in such a special place as Ravenglass, doubly so. Having said that, the staff are friendly and efficient and the food was passable if not excepional. Why do hotels think that its cool to serve everything other than soup on a slate roof tile?

“Lovely modern surprise!”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 via mobile

Stayed over for one evening. Was pleasantly surprised how modern and well presented this hotel was, not expecting this at all in such a remote place. Lovely room (but perhaps with a faint whiff of dog?)would of preferred to be asked if I wanted a non-dog using room as I am allergic to them, so could tell straight away dogs had been in there. They were in the bar too, but I guess it's to be expected in this neck of the woods.
Room lovely though, every amenity you could ask for. If I had to criticise I would say the bed was rock hard, other than that really good.
Good parking facilities, slightly pricey bar prices, small but nice breakfast, and very friendly staff. Young man on reception really friendly, an asset to the hotel.
Would stay again.

“Nice food and friendly staff”
Reviewed 19 October 2013 via mobile

I'd recommend this hotel for food. We didn't stay, as we were motorhoming in the C&CC site close by.
Dinner was good and so was the beer and wine.
Nice friendly service.
Not too expensive. Around £50 for two courses, two beers and a bottle of Merlot.

“a welcome retreat from the dreadful weather”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

Clean and comfortable with friendly staff. Bar is dog friendly. Bar menu is limited to a few mains and small sandwich selection. Staff did keep disappearing but were likely busy and office door was left open allowing all guests to hear all conversations. No napkins offered with desserts and had to ask for basics like sugar. But this was a welcome rest from the cold weather, a little too modern in décor for my taste but that is just my opinion. No menus available, and when we asked we were given the wrong menu. we would visit again as this was perhaps an off day!
