I know Ravenglass from my young growing up days in Cumbria, but never went into the village, that is until this summer. What a lovely surprise, it is very quiet, peaceful,no shops, beautiful view. Hotel was a readers paradise, food was excellent, sticky toffee pudding to die for, bar a bit quiet, rooms fabulous, and we will be visiting again asap. Next to it a lovely old fashioned bar, what i would call a good Man's bar, with a small restaurant, where the fish was excellent, the hosts very chatty. All in all a lovely little gem in the middle of nowhere........HEAVEN.:-)

Room Tip: Only go if you are looking for peace and quiet, even though we had our grandsons, its more a couples...

Just back from a stay here - location was fantastic, brought out 2 dogs (only £10 extra cleaning charge for both) and were placed in a lovely downstairs room right next to a door out onto the estuary front. Parking is easy, ate in the restaurant & all meals/courses were fantastic. Only small negative was could hear a fair bit of noise from the room above. Other than that perfect for a tranquil dog friendly break.

Stayed in Pennington after looooong drive from Glasgow. staff very good, Room excellent with a good view. Food just right. Impressed with the breakfast team that recognised my accent as being a Mackum. Will definitely stat again - highly recommended.

Room Tip: The rooms in the barn conversion look very good.

'Stayed here for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary with our Daughter, her husband, and our Grandchildren - Very clean and pleasant in a beautiful location - The evening meals on offer however were not to our tastes, and so we ate elsewhere - 'Would recommend this hotel for a weekend away

We booked into the Pennington and arranged for friends to join us for dinner. There was no one in reception when we arrived. We had to ask in the bar about our booking but they knew nothing which was very embarrassing for us and our guests. Fortunately ( and I now understand why) the restaurant was very quiet.

The service was very poor and could be described at best as 'surly', coffee was spilt on my wife with no apology, vegetables were missing from the dishes, the child's meals didn't come with what was advertised, meat was overcooked and the plates were cold The food was poor and didn't live up to expectations.

We were shocked to hear the amount of giggling, laughing and joking from the staff and chef (female) in the hotel - they were all holed up in the bar on the evening we left having a laugh. They should have been looking after their only dining room guests rather than indulging in small talk and surfing Facebook.

We did complain but no recompense was offered from the young team.

Ravenglass is a beautiful village in an estuary, the Pennington is really central in the area and well signposted. If you are travelling to visit the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway it couldn't be better located.

The service was always good and the restaurant well served with local fish specials as well as standard fare. Breakfast was excellent, the rooms were large and well furnished. It was great to be able walk along the beach after dinner and just enjoy the area. For a weekend away this would be a great recommendation.

We booked into the Pennington Hotel on Friday late afternoon and to be honest from the moment we arrived everything (the room, the staff, the food, the cleanliness etc., etc.,) were absolutely excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was large, light and clean, lovely big fluffy bathtowels, an excellent selection of toiletries, a good range of complimentary goodies on the drinks tray, and to top it all excellent weather. We would certainly return and cannot understand why anyone would make a complaint about anything here. Again really lovely hotel, nice and close to the beach and to Ratty's - which is why we were visiting this weekend. Well done to all staff at the Pennington. Special note my husband said the chef's home made black pudding was the best he has ever eaten and in 63 years that is a great recommendation. Thank you.

Room Tip: Room 22 was in the annex but it wasn't a problem (maybe would be in the winter) but lovely room.
