“Quaker meeting house”

Brigflatts Meeting House
Reviewed 16 March 2013

One of the oldest meeting houses. An open door gives access to refreshments and a loo for anyone passing by. An almost unique experience.

Attended a discussion group during Quaker week. Fascinating little place well worth a stop. Also worth attending a meeting for worship to see the building being used for the purpose for which it was intended.

The warden showed us round this 17th century meeting house with many original features. Quite delightful

This unique ancient building has a simplicity about it that gets to your soul. The walls tell their story. The space is full of textures, colours and atmosphere that are serene and informing. A wonderful place to reflect and renew.

I lived in Brigflatts Cottage directly opposite the Meeting House for eight months in 2004 and was taken with the wooden interior of the building. It is a peaceful place ideal for some quiet meditation - as long as you don't mind the smell of wood which is still very strong after over 400 years!
