Owner description: The Beer Hall is the Hawkshead Brewery tap, but within it are many things: visitors' centre, specialist international beer shop, function room, conference room and The Beer Kitchen providing the perfect food to complement the beer - our "Beer Tapas." The Beer Hall is a showcase for real ale and has a Cask Marque award for serving “the perfect pint”.

“Stick to making beer!”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

I never write reviews but feel compelled to do so after visiting Staveley Hawkshead Brewery. It is set within a kind of industrial estate and therefore outside tables are basically in a car park. As it was a lovely warm day, we risked it but a delivery arrived so a forklift truck went back & forth right by our table about 20 times beeping its warning alarm & churning out exhaust fumes & engine noise.

We'd ordered fish & chips & plaice gougons. The chips looked like they'd be fried about 8 times & the fish was over-battered frozen triangle-shapes. The plaice gougons were slithers of fish caked in greasy batter & despite asking for a flight of 3 beers, they don't do that...at a brewery!? so had a couple of separate halves. Couldn't stay long as it was impossible to talk or relax.

I'm sure it's a good brewery but I wouldn't advise you eat & certainly not outside!

First of all I'm sorry that your experience was less than ideal.

You are right, we are on an industrial estate, we are a working brewery and the fork lift is used by all the businesses on the yard. We do provide outside seating for people who wish to use it but it is not a private beer garden, there is also plenty of seating indoors.

I'm sorry that the food did not meet your expectations. Your comments have been passed on to the chef and the Manager of The Beer Hall.

All comments, both positive and negative, are welcome and are helpful for development of our trade.

“Raise a Glass to Some Fine Beer”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

We called into the Hawkshead Brewery on an off the cuff visit en-route to Windermere from Kendal. The Village of Staveley is roughly between Kendal and Windermere no where near Hawkshead as you probably would first guess. It is set in a industrial workyard with a large bar with all the various Hawshead tipples on Draft and some other ales and lagers available also. There is also food available and a beer Tapas consisting of smaller dishes to compliment your beer of choice I chose the Dressed crab and Scotch egg and relish both were fine my wife and daughter had the beer batter cod and they both enjoyed it though it was crammed onto a small rectangle plate. We didn't have time to do the Brewery tour, but will on another planned trip. There is a Summer beer festival on the 17th-20th of July that also has entertainment provided

“beer lovers haven.”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

Visited on Friday 4th July for a tour. The tour was undertaken by one of the brewers. It was informative and I have learned many things about how my beer should be served. You also get free beer tokens to use in the bar after. Tried several excellent beers, picked our favourite and purchased some bottles to bring home.
It was a very friendly atmosphere. The staff knew about each beer and helped select. Tried some of the beer tapas which were tasty. We shared as was going out for dinner later, wish we had eaten more here. Will be recommending to many of my friends. Only difficulty was the parking.

“Birthday Treat”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

we went today on a tour for my hubby's Birthday , we've been on a lot of these type of tours , not just in this country but in Europe as well .
it was very informative But also very loud so we struggled to hear what our guide was saying !
there wasn't a lot to see and the dvd we saw before going in told us more than what there was to see
the pub side was very well appointed and the staff very friendly and helpful
you get 2 half pints each to sample , but as having to drive a long way home and myself on medication they let us bring a bottle each home instead , which was a great gesture as many of these tours wouldn't allow this
if your up that way and like beer it's worth a visit
