“Superb food and very friendly”
Reviewed 5 April 2013

Just got back from a weeks family holiday in Bardsea, and this gorgeous little villiage in was the highlight of our break. We were in a large group of 10 adults, but despite taking up a third of the dining room they were more than happy to accomodate us and were very welcoming. Fine local ales and some of the best chips we've ever tasted! One of our group is a vegetarian and the chef put on some lovely veggie meals which went down a treat. Unfortunately they ran out of the venison pie the first night but put on extra venison henrys when we came back to make up for it, and it was well worth the wait! The prices were very reasonable too for top notch food.

The locals were very chatty and the whole place has a very cozy "front room" atmosphere which is just the ticket after a cold day out walking on the fells. I will definately be back at some point in the future! Many thanks to Katie and co for the great service.

Just called in after a walk in the area, a warm fire , good beers, warm welcome and a great bowl of chips ! Evening menu looked good and there are curry evenings, don't serve sun evenings and may be worth checking opening times Only a small inn but could stay overnight.
Hope to return for a proper meal in the future

We booked the hotel for New Year. Everyone was very helpful and flexible from organising our stay to arranging breakfast. Gwen was most helpful in dealing with my food allergies at breakfast and accommodating a late cooked breakfast following the New Year celebrations. Our room was warm and comfortable..

My wife and I stayed at The Ship Inn in December during one of the coldest nights of the year, but we were given a warm welcome by Gwen. The room was warm and the beds comfortable.
As I was being entertained to dinner elsewhere my wife took advantage of the early-bird evening menu and chose the Curry of the Day and a glass of excellent Merlot in the dining room adjoining the bar where the locals were very friendly.
The twin-bedded room was well furnished. It had a wash basin in the bedroom and an en-suite bath and wc. The hot water is really hot.
Breakfast is served from 6am (to cater for the early risers) with last orders for a cooked breakfast at 8.15, although a continental breakfast can be served in your room later if you wish.
A wide selection of cereals, orange juice, excellent bacon, eggs and tomatoes (with beans if you wish), tea, coffee and toast, cooked to order by Gwen, set us up for the day.
This is a really nice village pub (with Black Sheep Bitter!) at very reasonable prices and we would not hesitate to stay their again.

Room Tip: Room 6 is a twin-bedded room.

My partner & I stayed in the Ship Inn a couple of weeks ago for a weekend, Gwen & family could not of been more attentive, nothing was too much to ask. We felt very welcome and comfortable in a relaxed atmosphere, not only by the lovely family but from the locals too, and had lots of laughs :)
The rooms are very relaxing and exceptionally clean. And the home cooked food, real ale & service was second to none!!! We will certainly be visiting again...soon I hope!!! The Ship Inn needs a higher star rating in my opinion. Thanks for making our stay fantastic :) :)

Room Tip: Room 4 is lovely, I'm guessing all the others are too though

my husband and i recently stayed in a cottage in Bardsea. The Ship Inn being only yards away we had our first meal on the Saturday night along with our daughter and her partner who had come for the night to celebrate my birthday. Katie made us very welcome and the food was fantastic and plentiful. We then went further afield on the Sunday and paid over the odds for mediocre food. The same thing happened again on the Monday and so for the rest of the week we dined at The Ship and worked our way through the menu. From Lamb Henry, Steak and Ale pie, Fresh battered fish (Katie took the lager through for Paul to make the batter) Tapas, Gammon, Steak etc the food was all fresh, very tasty and the best chips we have tasted for a long time. The atmosphere was lovely, all the locals made us very welcome. My husband was delighted with the real ales and we really enjoyed our week in Bardsea in large to the young couple in this Pub who couldnt do enough for us.They work very hard and deserve to make a great success of this business. We are hoping to go and stay again hopefully at the Ship Inn in the near future.

Room Tip: didnt stay so could not comment
