I have just returned after staying for the 2nd time at The Red Lion, as a solo traveller and am very much looking forward to returning once again next year. Excellent, excellent, excellent....

Steve and Lucy are wonderful people who run this pub to an immaculate standard and I can highly recommend it to anyone of any age, culture or class. You will not be disappointed and you will be welcomed with open hearts and minds. The locals are friendly and welcoming too. All in all, the pub is a place of laughter, sincerity and atmosphere.

The rooms are spotless and cleaned daily with a replenished stock of anything you have used. Fluffy towels and bottled water is provided with a wonderful array of tea, coffee and biscuits.
Rooms are well heated, looked after and with wonderful views. Excellent Wii Fi available in all rooms.

The food is excellent and cooked with love and affection. (Wonderful chips :))
Be warned - the portions are HUUUGE for breakfast but Lucy is happy to scale them down for smaller appetites (thank you for that Lucy!).
All in all a great way to start your day.... p.s Lucy is very accommodating even if you have an early start and so need an early breakfast. Service always came with a smile and was truly delicious.
* I have stayed at another B&B close to this one and when needing to leave early (before 8am) - a hearty/tasty cooked breakfast was not an option. It was quite the reverse here.
Fantastic, quality food, cooked well and served with love.
Even if you do not stay here as a guest - I would thoroughly recommend dining at any time of day or evening. Varied menu and excellent standards.

The pub is run by a fabulous couple.
Steve behind the bar, is genuine, helpful, warm and lovely. Lucy, (one of the most hard working people I know), is wonderful, friendly and sincere.
Together, they provide a joyful and welcoming atmosphere to any person fortunate enough to walk through the door to either dine, drink or stay as a guest. They both deserve a medal.

There is lots more I could say - all positive and genuine but instead, I will wrap it up and say ...
in conclusion, the service overall here is amazing, the value for money is second to none and I will return to The Red Lion next year, the year after that and the year after that.

Thank you.
From the minute I was welcomed by both Steve and Lucy whilst unpacking my car (thank you for the help with my heavy bag Steve), with a warm hug and a 'welcome back' smile, I felt I had simply 'returned home to see some really good friends'. I have stayed in many B&B's across the UK and globe and can honestly say this one is one of, if not the best.

A wonderful, compassionate and blessed couple who really care about their guests which is a refreshing breath of fresh air in this day and age.
A beautiful time was had, so once again, a really big thank you guys.

Make time in your diary to spend at The Red Lion. You will not be disappointed.....

We visited as a party of 10 adults plus dog for Sunday lunch and couldn't have been made more welcome. Food great, puddings in particular went down very well! Our visit was on the day following the Keswick to Barrow sponsored walk when the pub had made available its facilities to hundreds of walkers and support team members - if we hadn't been involved with the walk, we wouldn't have known that it had taken place less than 24 hours previously - everything was spotless. Well worth a visit!

Steve was very welcoming and cheerful. The bar had a lovely warm log fire and old oak beams but otherwise the decor was a bit tired in the bar and lounge. Excellent free wifi. The bedroom was small but well heated and nicely furnished. The ensuite shower room was great with a powerful easily controlled shower. Dinner was tasty but nothing adventurous. The breakfast was truly gargantuan and would suit anyone planning to walk thirty miles or more! Porridge was a particular highlight: a generous bowl served with lashings of cream.
