We have just spent a perfect anniversary weekend at Candlewyck on the recommendation of my sister. We stayed in the Barn Studio and it was fabulous - a real oasis of calm. It is perfectly situated in a location that is rural and yet only a 10 minute walk into Ulverston. We spent a lovely few hours at the Buddhist temple nearby, from where we were able to do a walk along the beach. They do lovely baguettes at the weekend! We were really impressed and hope to be able to return soon and enjoy Sam's hospitality again.

Our second visit to Candlewyck. With our two children (15 and 10), we had another fabulous time. Sam Duncan knows how to look after her guests. Our rooms were spotless, the breakfast (organic) delicious and the house itself is delightful. A great base for travelling around and Ulverston has some great restaurants within walking distance. I am a travel snob so finding somewhere like Candlewyck was a massive stroke of luck. Our 10 year old loved visiting the pigs and horses. Totally recommend staying here.

Room Tip: There are rooms in the main house and a self contained barn. We stayed in the house but the barn is...

Since our first wonderful stay at this exceptional B and B 18 months ago, we have escaped kids and work stresses and returned on several occasions, incuding this weekend. The barn is heavenly: decor, fittings and bedding would not be out of place in a five star hotel, and the breakfast could not be bettered. Sam is a fantastic host. We've already booked our next stay. Can't wait!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Candlewyck. Sam made us feel very welcome. Candlewyck has great character and is beautifully furnished. Rooms were lovely and beds were very comfortable. Very peaceful at night. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. First class ingredients. We all agreed breakfast was the best we have had anywhere. Sam pays attention to every little detail and it shows. Would not hesitate to recommend.

We stayed in the barn at this lovely B&B which is detached from the main house so we had privacy whilst knowing help was at hand if needed. It was well furnished, spacious and clean and we were made to feel very welcome with fresh milk and even wine available on arrival.

Breakfast was in the kitchen in the main house so you have to watch it being prepared. A nice informal set up to get to chat with the host, or in this case some hired help, although this is reliant on the hired help being chatty and experienced with making breakfast. You have to share a table with other guest which means chit chat first thing in the morning.

The organic cooked breakfast was good although a vegetarian alternative would have been really good.

Only seeing the host fleetingly during our stay did take away from the experience slightly, but overall a great place to stay for some real peace and quiet with some nice touches and attention to detail, and it was a good base for exploring the south Lakes.

I simply cannot say enough about how lovely this place is. From the moment we arrived we felt comfortable and at home. Perfect locations, stunning accommodation and food, immaculately clean, easy 10 min walk to town.
From the excellent dining recommendations (and bookings) from Sam even before we arrived, up until the moment we left it was faultless. You really would be hard pressed to find better. Already checking diaries to return as soon as we can. Awesome......if you like appreciate the finer things in life and want a uniques B&B experience.....simply GO! :-)

What better way to prepare for the rigours of a long distance walk than to relax in the luxury of Candlewyck Barn. Sam is very welcoming and her home, with its mix of antique and modern is a delight. Beautiful bedrooms and of course, all important, lovely comfortable beds. Super bathroom with Sedbergh organic toiletries. Breakfast is cooked to order on the Aga and includes organic everything. The sausages are made to their own recipe from their Tamworth pigs. A beautiful base from which to explore this quiet area.

Room Tip: There are 3 rooms. The 2 in the main house share a bathroom.Ideal for 2 couples travelling together...
